Default Recaro SP-G vs. Mugen S1

I'm trying to compare seat width and shoulder width between the Recaro SP-G racing seat and the Mugen S1 racing seat. I've sat in 234's Mugen S1 and it is very comfy (if not snug) and would like to get an idea on the size of the Recaro.

I did a search and came up with the link below as a starting point.

It sounds as if the Recaro is similarly sized per the thread.

Does anyone have the Recaro SP-G who might be able to give some good info.?

Thanks!!!

kepani-who is hunting for buckets...

The SPG is dimensionally very similar to the S1, but it feels snugger because it has quite a bit more padding. It is noticeably tighter in the waist and shoulders, but not uncomfortable. Also, the SPG feels snugger in the thigh area, which means when you sit in the seat your legs are closer together (this is can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preference). If the Mugen felt snug to you then I suggest you find an SPG to sit in because it will be even snugger and may not be as comfortable for you.

geometro has the SPG and may be able to provide a more detailed description.

N1Spec - nice seats! what are your physical dimensions? you were saying that you're 66kg (translates to ~145lbs. right?)

B2 - LOL, yeah no kidding...every f00 has that seat down here did you get yourself one as well?

Bob#455 - thanks for the good info.!

i might have to sit in yoshi's or aoi's seats again and see how it fits. i'm thinking that "snug" is probably ideal while on the course. the very reason for my search is that last time i went up with the guys to buttonwillow, i was rocking left and right in my stock seats. they're great seats, but not when you're driving at the level you are while on a track. if they're just as "snug", then i think it would be just right!

any other socal guys with the Recaro SP-G?

If you plan to get either of those seats, I guess you won't be eating any more local food.

I would stay away from the Mugen seat. It's not FIA approved for competition. I don't really feel that it is a good deal when it comes to price either, considering that you can have a kevlar seat from Cobra for around $500. My understanding is also that kevlar is much stronger than fiberglass (Mugen), however I don't know if this is a big issue when it comes to safety. Just make sure you don't buy for name and status, rather that functionality and quality.

yup 145lbs, you guys should get with metric system!
it fits me good but i believe someone whos 170-180lbs would find these seats a snug fit, which is good in my view. The good ting about these seats, now i dont know whether Mugen or Sparcos etc are the same is the ability to rip out the padding/thigh support etc etc and add them as you please.

how heavy are you??

reid - brah, if i even *look* at local food, i have to go exercise you are right

as for getting an FIA seat, i've read that racing events *require* you to have one. however, some of the events i have been to allow any type of bucket seat. i suppose getting an FIA seat would rid any possible headaches with regards to passing tech inspection for any events that are *strict*.

if the recaro's are not much more expensive than the mugen is, and in addition is FIA approved, then i'd get the recaro. the only thing that i'm concerned with is the fitment...

kepani-who is not as big as akebono...but if he ate local food everyday...might as well be

Having an FIA approved seat in SCCA, allows you to run w/o a seat back brace.

According to King's website, the Mugen S1 is $899!?! Whereas, the Recaro SPG can be purchased for as low as $699.

Im 185pds and 5'10

I sat in my friend recaro spg(the seat doesnt have the kevlar through), at first the seat felt a little tight, but after few minute, it became comfy. The lateral support was amazing although he was making is rally evo 5 bouce left and right. The recaro less comfortable than the sparco pro I had in my other R but offered more support since it was tighter

ive never sat in the mugen so I can,t comment, but if you are over 200pds you can forget the recaro spg
