Gas Milage
I was thinking about getting a prelude (92-96 si), but the only drawback is how you have to fill up with premium gas. Even though the premium gas is more expensive, what kinda gas milage are you guys getting with your ludes? I drive around 20k plus miles a year and a car that takes premium and gets bad milage may not be the most logical choice for me? I may have to look into the accord coupe.
I asked the local honda shop about this... because some places premium is 91, other's 94.. and one local place has the 89 listed as "premium" and 93 listed as "super premium". I wanted to know what exactly honda means by premium and what was just marketing jargon. He said 91 or above is considered premium, but on a stock prelude you can run 89 or 87, but the computer will compensate the timming to get rid of any knock, which will cause a decrease in power
I've got a 5th gen and the average mpg in the city is around 25 or 26mpg
. On the highway, I get around 34 or 35 mpg. It's winter here now and my last 2 tanks were just over 23mpg
Premium is 91 and up. I believe 87 is regular. The car gets "ok" gas mileage, but no where close to what you can get in a civic.

Yes, I bought the car in Nov 2001 and I've been tracking my gas consumption since day 1. In the winter I have to let the car warm up so that is why I'm getting lower mileage now. I basically fill up the tank, drive till I need more gas, and then fill up again. I use the amount of gas filled and distance travel to compute the mpg. The worst I got was one time when the car was around 3 weeks old and the check-engine light came on and for that tank of gas I ended up getting around 18mpg. I drive pretty conservatively, so that might be another reason why I'm getting good gas mileage. I think I might have only vtec like 10 times since I've bought the car. Like I said, I'm a pretty conservative driver. Oh, and I've got a 5speed so that'll also give me a little better mileage than an auto.

colder air == more dense air == more fuel required to get the right A/F ratio. My gas millage changes so often, but it's around 22 or so. If you want good gas millage, get a 98 Civic HX. I was getting 40+, had all power options, and the VTEC-e. Also, the car had about the same or little more power than the LX, but was as light as the DX (even with power windows, locks, etc). Honestly it was a perfect car for a swap, but i wrecked it before I could replace the motor
