Default Why is my *friends* car so slow? (GSR Hatch runs 15's constantly)

Well I have this *friend* and for some odd reason that we couldn't figure out, whenever he goes to the track, he never runs faster than a 15.xxx (well he ran a 14.965@89.970 w/2.2 60' before) I dont understand it

To add to the shame, it has an AEM CAI, Quaife LSD, Apex'i N1 cat back, hi flow cat, and it was run with a stripped interior, and.........on drag radials

Now, by now you probably realize that its not my friends car, but mine, and for the record, I have GOOD '60 times, always between 2.1-2.2 and I tried different pressures ranging from 14psi to full street pressure, and I tried different burnout methods!!!!!!!

I dont know what it could be...

Do you have a CEL? Maybe you need to change spark plugs or something.

No, the car was never throwing any codes, and I have changed the plugs, wires, cap & rotor, always change the oil, and all that stuff.

BUT...recently I discovered that my secondaries have never worked properly, and stay shut all the time, and I also found out that my exhaust manifold was cracked in half.....so one thing led to another and I lost a valve or 2, so it is sitting in the shop right now. It used to burn TONS of oil too, I would drive from Monterey to Hanford (2.5 hrs) and use up a quart of oil!!!!!!! My headgasket leaked alot too, as did the oil pan

But now it is all being fixed and should be back on the road pretty quick here. But I am wondering if the car will still be a 15 second car, or if those problems (the only old problems were the manifolds) actually affected the speed that much???

Only time will tell.........

you have all those issues and wonder why your a 15 second car? Having the IAB inoperable is stifling your top end. Get that wired up correctly! God luck when you get it back.

Hearing stuff like that brings tears to my eyes

But it will hopefully be completely fixed in a week or 2 (I hope) but if the IAB cant be fixed I'll either get another one from a friend with the skunk2 or I will just buy a skunk2 (I know I'll lose a little bottom end though)

What's the elevation your running at? Sears Point is close to you right? I would make sure everything works first then do a compression test. Then work on your driving if it's still slow. I'm pulling 14.2's in a B16 92 hatch so you *should* be faster.

Well I ran my fastest time at Palmdale, and all the other runs were made at Famoso. The car is being fixed currently, and hopefully when I pick it up everything will be running good and the IAB will work.

It was sitting in my garage for about 6 months, and I finally took it in to the shop, to this day I dont know why I waited so long to get it fixed, but then I remembered that my tax returns are almost here and that will give me enough money. Hopefully it will only cost 4-700 and not much more.

I dont think it will cost too much for the following:

having the head checked out and replace the valve seals and 2 exhaust valves, and I will also change out the timing belt since its old. And my oil pan is leaking so that oil pan gasket too will need to be changed. Then maybe he can get my IAB's to work, we'll have to see. Only time will tell....

2.1-2.2 60' IS NOT good for drag radials...

2.1-2.0 is about right on Nittos. Some go faster some go slower but the best I get it 2.1 on DR's.

Judging from the mph the car had no top end. Try taking your secondaries out completely for drag racing. Or fix the problem, also doin a compression check will help determine if you have a healthy motor. I ran 13.0 at 102 in my friends hatch with I/H/E/vafc on a refreshed motor with stock compression.

Oh yeah, the compression was flat across the board on all cylinders.

Yeah, but I always hear about people running low 14's stock with them in a hatch, and I paid alot for it, and am hoping to fix it all, I guess the head is coming off today, so we'll see what happens, I hope that they drop the head off at the machine shop today too, then who knows how long that'll take...

The heads coming off today, and my friends dad is supposed to let me know how things are going, he said he'll check out all the sensors on the manifold to get it to work again, so now I just have to see how long the machinist is gonna take.
