Default dyno numbers before and after mods!

Hi everybody. For those of you thinking about porting and polishing your head, but are too lazy to pull off the head and wait a couple of weeks of not having your car, don't wait any longer!

baseline was 150 hp and 113 lbs of torque. bone stock, 98 gs-r with pep boys air filter and magnecore wires and 50K.

current with alaniztechnologies.com street port, with the following mods: '01 itr cams, portflow vavletrain, jg header, 2.25 crush bent b-pipe to stock itr exhaust, aem fpr, skunk2 gears + intake manifold, jdm itr ecu, 100% stock bottom end. baselined at 172.9 hp, 123.6 lbs of torque. one hour later, and just 2 more dyno pulls later, hit 181.2 hp and 128.2 lbs of torque. that's 30 more hp than stock! i think 15 of it is from the head.

tuned by dynospotracing.com in san jose, a thumbs up to lawrence for all his work!

i think i can hit 200 with a straight pipe, ecu, cold air AEM, hondata, and some usdm si pistons. what you guys think?

will post up pictures and maybe a mpeg later.

95 GSR, ITR cams, Skunk2 gears, VAFC, JDM 4-1, SMSP 2.5 mandrel exhaust and FPR= 180 and 129.7lb/ft with stock bottom end, manifold and ECU. But mine is OBD I, nice #s BTW. Do you have a dyno graph? I bet the P&P made the midrange really fat.

Nice job. 181/128 is very good.

Throw in some bigger cams and get a better flowing exhaust you may be able to get high 180's, with pistons (us Itr) and Dsr's tuning no prob. getting close to 200.

thanx for all the encouragement.

http://www.saber.net/~mewtwo/dyno2.jpg

there's a dyno graph for you guys. gotta love the vtec spike! probably could have laid down another 2-3 hp but it was starting to get hotter. the areas where the graph gets "lost" is because the magnecore wires weren't reading well with the machine. from my personal experience, too, i wouldn't even get them again because the pop out too often.

it's a competition port and polish w/o the blueprinting, just resurfaced the head, no milling. have a flo-chart for that too. joe at http://www.alaniztechnologies.com does great work!

What other tuning did you do to add to those numbers? Real nice numbers on a GSR y0. Makes me proud

with those R cams, your going to need to lower the vtec curve to make that spike smooth. We lowered ajchen's vtec to 5200-5300 on his afc and it came out real nice and smooth. That cross-over would be good for a little bit more aggressive cams y0.

how can you say port and polish is worth it???

you added MAD mod's to the head and exhaust!!!! that is NOT A TRUE before and after results.....it makes no sense to say it is worth a PandP....why because you changed many variables!

i have seen an exhaust add 11hp's....ctr cams 12 hp's....there is 22 hp plus the other mods you have listed....

yes PandP helps but you added over 1500 in mods on top of PandP

that is just plain assine to say go out and do it look i picked up 30 hp from it....and fail to tell what else you did. like the topic states

How can you say that? I wish you had done a real before and after of JUST the head, so we could see some real, impartial results. You added cams, header, fpr, cam gears, intake mani, ecu, and tuned it. You just as well should say the jdm ecu gave you 20 hp yo. You could have made 15 hp with just tuning alone. Too many variables.

That's what I'm saying...if you had just compared a ported (but otherwise stock) head to a bone stock head then these statements might mean something.

Congrats on the numbers, however.

one of the best possible. so exactly what are you expecting out of a port and polish and some fpr adjustments? and if you know someone who can guarantee me 30 whp w/ that...please point me in their direction.

For those of us looking for every extra horsepower after spending $$$ on building a motor and mods, a P & P is a good option. For the average kid who knows nothing of engine building, cams, cam gears, intake header and exhaust with some dyno time are a more cost effective approach. The higher your horsepower goes, the higher the cost of each extra pony.
