Default Sohc Vtec Cam Experiences

I kno this topic has been posted before...but it seems like noone can give a straight answer

who actually has an aftermarket SOHC VTEC cam installed and what are your results? do you like it? streetable?

Also are the y8 and z6 cam the same/interchangeable?

It seems like most of the cams available are regrinds and ive heard bad things about regound cams....

so please post your experience with your SOHC Cam!

thanks

Actually I'm wondering too. it seems NO1 puts an aftermarket cam on there z6/y8s?? people put cams in zcs and a6s. weird. maybe there not worth it on the sohc vtecs?

ANYONE care to enlighten us?

im pretty sure the cams are interchangable, but you need to adjust your timing when you swap them. check out http://www.cranecams.com they've got y8 cams, only upto stage 2 though, its about 700 for that i believe

$700!!! for a sohc cam! thats crazy if i had to spend that much on a sohc cam to make some decent power, I would have went to the DOHC side!

from our experiences, the sohc vtec cams dont like too much lift but are more efficient with a longer duration.

D16z6/D16y8 (92-00 Civic EX 1.6L sohc vtec)
STAGE 2 DUR@.010 INT 300 EX 270 LIFT INT .400 EX .380

try one of our camshafts... guarantee to make power and not break your budget.

Ive got a minime head swap with a zex 59300 cam and port and polish I've got really decent power between 4500 and 6500 rpms. its also got alright low end, I was told to really feel a difference on this cam you should get new valve springs. I also have read that it is an excelent cam for FI. That I will be finding out in the spring. I only dropped about $250 for it.

Crower cams new are 325 (no matter what spec you get). Yes that's high but, they are made from cores and not regrinds.

Yes and No, the Z6 cams or Y8 cams are interchangable as long as you have a cam gear. They are set keyed at different points on the cam for the gear.

They are. The y8 is a little bit large - so it will give ya more HP (not much though).

Any SOHC VTEC cam will work in the z6 or the y8 head.

I have the ZEX 59300 cam in my Z6. There was a very noticable increase in power from about 3500 rpm and up. I still do not take it over 7200 because I dont have springs or retainers yet. it is an awesome cam.

i have valvetrain for the A6, Z6 and Y8. but we dont sell them separately at this time. only available with our head packages.

If interested feel free to contact. some have concerns about the pricing on certain things. while it obviously are not low balled prices, we are still open to discussion on those packages. i just want to say that we are not a mass producing type of company. we believe in quality products rather than quantity. Pricing reflects the work we like to do onall our stuff. you get what you pay for is what im trying to say. when we do race blocks, most often, majority of the parts are totally new and replaced. of course the block itself and crank are used. we assure you that our expertise is in building engines, are from experience with 9 second turbo motors to 10 second all motor cars. so please take that in consideration. you wont get a 10 year old design sohc head package here. i assure you that every single product that we do is as good or even better than what we will do to our own stuff.

well the best one for daily is the zex cam. it hasnt come in yet. still on it's way. but if you could get, get the zex. zex got a 220 duration and 450 lift. so it's great for turbo since turbo don't need alot of duration to create power of course if you going all out looking for 300 or 500hp. beside sohc engine don't like to rev high. dude to because it was never built to. it's engine head port are not that great, so creating mild power is the best choice. plus zex cam are only around 280$.

one more thing, duration shift the power band up and lift increase preak tq and hp. for turbo use, long lift is the choice.

The Zex stage 2 cam for the z6 engine runs about 250-300 bucks, and is good for about 20 horses. it doesnt do a whole lot for the low end power, it mainly improves on the V-tec side.
