97+ The Aluminum pan is definately heavier than the "sheet metal" pan that the earlier engines come with. I now run one of these on my car. I believe there are advantages in heat disipation with the aluminum and some possible rigidity increases since there isn't a gasket.
so the aluminum version is better or the stock sheet metal one.. .because i have a sheet metal one now.. but i'm using a race header and well i must modify my current oil for clearance and since it's aluminum and can custom fabriate it and modify it in aluminum with my tig...so i need a 97 aluminum one if it does exist... any help on locating one...

Actually the steel pan may be easier to modify. It is routinely done by a lot of folks. The factory aluminum pan was cast and you may not be able to match the material used. Strength is important here along with the thermal characteristics. Just something to consider. Where to get one-check with the local salvage yard or the dealership should be able to do something good for you.
I hear (unsubstantiated) that if you try to weld to an old, used, pan, that no matter how well you cleaned it, the oil will still contaminate the weld. I suspect people just don't clean them with the right stuff, but thought I'd pass this along...

you must use a stainless steel wire brush and slighly shave some material off, but first using a degreser and aluminum cleaner... works wonders....

if you are working on the oil return line. buy an aeroquip an flare union reducer. have your pan tapped so the fitting can be threaded into the pan put j-b on the threads and on the outside of the fitting it works great
