Default what could cause an engine to be loud

i don't know what is up with my engine, but it sounds very loud. it just doesn't seem to run quiet like other engines. when the rpms are low and my car is not in motion it will remain at a normal intensity. but when i am driving i have to turn my radio up halfway just to hear it.

you have to be more specific when you say "loud" what kind of noise it it making to be loud? do you have a cold air intake or an exhaust system?

well there are several things.. if you have a intake or exhaust thats the most obvious.. but you could have an exhaust leak somewhere or if its a chattering sound your valve lash might need adjusted.. but i notice one of the main things in my prelude is road noise.. especially if you have low profile tires you will get a lot of noise.. maybe you can be more specific

You have to describe it more. I mean if you're car is going up in RPM's, it's normal for it to get louder. Did you move the sound dampening stuff?

I think he is talking about is valve train. You might need a valve adjustment if that is what you are talking about!!

If your lude is not running smooth and you hear alot of clattering when idling it might be you need a valve adjustment.

How many miles are on the car?? Have you ever had a valve adjustment?? Most likely that's what it needs. Ludes r known for having a loud valve train... i like it Get yourself a Helm's manual (www.helminc.com) and adjust them yourself rather than taking it to a dealer. All you need are some basic tools and a set of feeler guages and you are set. Also if you do it you might as well replace the valve cover gasket and spark plug grommets while you're at it. You can get them all in a set at your local auto parts store for 30-40 bucks. Good luck.
