EXPO 3 - first time on the track?
How many of you planning to drive at Expo 3 will be on the track for the first time? I have yet to get on the track, but hope to make it out to an event before Expo. But as it stands right now, Expo will be my first track event. I must admit I am and will be pretty nervous. But after I lap the field a few times I should be pretty relaxed
It will be my first time as well. All I've done is a season of autocrossing. I was hoping to go to VIR in Feb., but with some recent events I doubt I'll have the money. Still I wouldn't be too nervous, just drive at your own pace.
Ive never even auto crossed my car. Ive ran it a few times at the drag strip, but thats about it. I know Expo is not a race, but Im still gonna be nervous when its time to roll.
But after I lap the field a few times I should be pretty relaxed
Do not show up at Beaver Run with this mentality, especially if you are inexperienced!
We've attracted a good number of very experienced instructors who will, I am sure, get you into a comfort zone quickly enough.
However, if you do not listen to them, and/or appear to be competitive or engaging in manoeuvres or speeds beyond your skill level and against their advice, they will be fully empowered to take you off the track.
You're not competing with anyone. You're out there to have a good, fun and safe time. Safe above all else.

an ego is not needed for a first timer , get ready for a humbling experience....

LOL, George is right, although I do believe the poster was joking about the "lapping" comment. I hope so...

Expo has the potential of being my first time, although I've autocrossed.. I pretty much plan to just try to learn as much as I can and try and stay out of everyone else's way..

For the first timers, have fun out there, but don't drive over your heads. I'm pretty sure the instructors will make sure this doesn't happen, but you should go into this event with the intent of having fun, but you should also drive at 7/10's...not 10/10's. I recently went to a TrackTime school at Road America and the instructors were repeating the 7/10's thing over and over. Words to live by.
I'd hate to see some wadded up ITR's headed out of BeaveRun!! We recently had an event at Nelson Ledges and a few of the 1st timers had incidents, one of which was pretty expensive.

Driving at 10/10ths means you are driving at the car's maximum capabilities.
"Driving at 10/10ths" means you are operating at your own maximum capabilities,
as you should well know!
I was nervous the first time on track. That is, until I actually got onto the track. At that point you become so busy that you really don't have time to be nervous anymore. Just concentrate on listening to your instructor and driving the car and you'll be fine.

A classroom session including a discussion of the passing and other rules, and
showing a drawing of "the line" around Beaver Run will probably be required of Novices before they get on the track for the first time.

I think this is VERY important for first timers. Two things I think are super important for first time track event attendees.... classroom instruction....and an instructor in the car.[Modified by Brett@SoloRacer.com, 12:10 PM 12/31/2002]

Will there be classroom for Intermediates also? Reason asking, I have only one track day under my belt and I requested Intermediate ONLY because I thought the Novice group would be very full.
