Default how to: cap/rotor replacement (the series continues!)

after much fumbling around, i finally have a successful how-to to share. i performed this cap/rotor replacement at 34k, but it was obvious the duo had a lot of life left in them. anyhoo, that's not the point. the point is that i'm **** beyond reason and i love tinkering on the R.
the parts you need.
rotor:

cap + rubber seal:

you must remove the spark plugs so label them appropriately and a firm, steady tug will pull them off the cap:

a good time to check the plugs for corrosion:

loosen the 3 philips screws holding the cap onto the distributor. there are 2 on the top and 1 on the bottom; you will need a short handle screwdriver to fit. pull off the cap and you will see this:

the retaining screw holding on the rotor is located on the underside of its shaft. to rotate the rotor to gain access to the screw you must turn the motor. similar to a valve adjustment, you must remove the left front wheel and use a 19mm socket (with long extension) to access the crank pulley through the splash guard. turn the motor until you see the rotor's retaining screw.

here you can see the retaining screw. remove this very carefully; it's in an awkward position and could be stripped very easily - soft metal!

remove the rotor and you see this. the metal shaft has a notch so the rotor can only go on 1 way, very easy.

notch in rotor shaft:

after removing the rotor, take off the black plastic box. now you can see the rubber o-ring to seal the cap - replace this. you can also see the ignitor coil; this is the black plastic box at the top of the picture. this can be removed after taking off the 2 screws located on the top of the ignitor coil; the screws are picture at the top left and right of this picture.

this job can easily be done in less than 30min. it's easier than applying an apc sticker (and more productive).

anybody know how to delete old pictures from wtdr?

Alright

Good job on the how-to, maybe someone could do a brake rotor how-to?

Chris, who needs to buy/change the front rotors.
