Default Just got an accord!

Yeah, i'm kinda new to this forum, my home is the EG forum, but my mom and dad found a good deal on an accord and got it for me. No I am not spoiled, i have to pay them back. its an '89 LXI coupe, black, automatic, 120K - $900

Got a good price because the dealer just got it yesterday as a trade in so my parents jumped on the deal. Nothing wrong with it, the interior is FLAWLESS, looks brand new, the exterior has a minor rust patch by the rear wheel well.

my original goal was to get a manual honda, anything as long as manual tranny. but, we dont always get what we want i guess. And it'll last me until summer which is all I was looking for. My dad did a car-fax on it and its clean.

my question(s) is: is there anything i should do, or worth doing to this car??
I'm NOT new to hondas, but this car doesnt seem like a swap is worth it, and it is an automatic, so maybe i'll just lower it and keep it stock, just clean up the body.

i am aware the engine in the LXI has the iron block and the better sleeves, and a b-series turbo manifold will bolt right up w/o problems .... but i don't know if its worth turboing with high miles and auto tranny!! Any input? Thanks for any comments. HOPEFULLY i'll have pics up soon.

since you said you only want it for a little while, don't do anything to it. when you get your next car, make sure its a stick and start from there...start off with a better platform.

Honda automatics are known for being weak and thus I wouldnt put any added power to this 120K mile old transmission and expect it to hold up much longer without building it up

about the only thing I would do is buy a K&N air filter and throw it in. It will save some money in the long run and provide a touch more pick-up.

Heck, after your done with the car, you can sell it on the side and get 50% back on your money.

if that is origonal tranny, spend your money on installing a nice tranny cooler, and putting in new fluid. You will not want to spend $900+ to get the auto tranny fixed when it goes out, and it will if it is the origonal tranny.

A tranny cooler is good advice to anyone who has an automatic transmission expecially if it is driven in hot climates through stop and go traffic as many of us seem to drive through.

**** that, you could prolly get 200% of the price your folks paid! in my area at least if it's in good condition. LXi's go for at least 2500, 2 or 4 door.

btw, good find, i say you leave it completely stock. LXi's are NICE cars imo.

Nice 3rd gen Accord
Check the fuel injectors. I think they have a tendancy to leak.

Thanks for the replies everyone
I was checkin it out and there is some build up underneath the tranny, might be oil I'm not sure so i'm going to have a friend look at it.
I noticed at stop lights it wants to take off, it just starts shaking worse and worse, like the steering wheel starts radling more and more. so i found if i put it in neutral that takes care of that.

i have decided the ONLY thing i will do to it is somehow jerry-rig a cup holding device that will sit in place of that tape holder, haha. i dont know the last time i saw a car with a tape holder. but something temporary that can be removed when selling the car. thanks everyone!

I was talking about the K&N.

He could prolly drive the CAR for 2 years, then sell it and get more than he paid for it...
