Brake Upgrade
I finally found out what brake pads on my '89 CRX. They are still the little bitty HF pads. They seem to brake just fine, but what is involved in upgrading to a bigger sized OEM brake, like the Si? Pretty simple, direct?
You can only upgrade to larger brakes by getting new knuckles and axles. Civic/CRX Si brakes are the same size as the DX and LX. I don't know what size your HF ones are. You need the entire knuckle AND axles because, from what I understand, your spline count in the hub is different so the larger brake with knuckle won't be compatible with your HF axle. EX knuckles give you the largest OEM size and it is the same size as the Integra and is a direct bolt on procedure (as is the DX/LX/Si).
HF brakes are very small. I hate them. In canada i can't get HF parts so I went to find out if anything else would fit in the calipers....1st gen CRX pads!!! That should give you an idea of how small they are. You do need the dx/si axles and complete hub/knuckle assembly because the split count is different, but worth the upgrade.
If I were you upgrade to the 90-91 civic 4 door ex knuckles. 10.3 in rotors and bigger pads. A nice upgrade and its factory Honda so you know its good.
