Default SOHC VTEC-obdo or obd1?

im gettin ready to do a D16z6 swap as soon as i find a motor.
4gen civics are obdo right? the VETC motor runs off of OBD1 right?
do i neeed to change it over or can i just use an 4 gen Si ECU with a vtec switch?
what about a 89 integra ECU would that be any help? know it makes a big difference in a ZC.

The best thing to do would be to buy an OBD0 to OBDI adapter harness and use a P28 ECU with all OBDI parts. You could use a PM6 (88-91 Si), PM7 (ZC), PG7 (88-89 Integra) or PR4 (90-91 Integra) ECU, Si distributor and injectors then a VAFC for the VTEC and fuel enrichment. Then there's the really cheap route using those OBD0 parts and an MSD RPM switch but without the fuel changes during VTEC it will run rich and/or lean.

88-91 cars NON-OBD or OBD0
92-5 cars are OBDI, d16z6 found in Si/EX uses OBDI electronics
yes a stock ecu can be used but higher rev limit is nicer, from ecus such as PM7 (ZC) or PG7 (d16a1 - teg), also 90-1 can easily be chipped and used with VAFC/SFC VTEC to control the mixture and vtec.
other alternative is to use a chipped PR3 ecu but its expensive and requires some tuning with the maps as well

personally I would get a obdo to OBDI harness converter and use OBDI electronics with a P08 or P91 or P28 ecu. this way you can take advantage of proper maps and its easy to tune .

88-91 distributor will need modifing therfore it doesn't leave much for timing adjustments. thus above becomes better option

your other option is to get a D16y8 which means that the dizzy will bolt up and few extra horses won't hurt. bonus is thats its a newer motor

Definitely use the P28 ECU. Plenty of people have been quite surprised to find out how much power they gained just by ditching the PM6 and going with a P28. And plenty of other people who stick with the PM6 are quite disappointed an the minimal power gains in the SOHC VTEC swap compared to the D16A6. And let's not forget about the distributer thing. Just keep in mind that if you go with the D16Y8 and use a P28 ECU, you will need the OBDII distributer.
