Default Need some info on owning an R

My lease is almost up and I'm starting to decide what I want for my next project car...

My options so far are:
99-00 EK w/ B18C5
99-00 EK w/ B16A2 and Vortech Supercharger
98-00 DC2R w/ JDM front
95 240sx w/ SR20DET

If anyone with an R can tell me how much they are paying monthly and for how long and some insurance numbers might help too

Thanks guys!

monthly payments and insurance are all based on many variables, too many to give you accurate figures.

My question is: why do you have four cars on this list, three of which have upgraded engines (or superchargers) and ONE with a bling front end? Just an odd mix on the list.

The following info might help:
1. driving record
2. sale price of R in question
3. amount you are putting down
4. years financing
5. where car is kept (i.e., city) AND where car is housed (i.e., garage, city street, etc)

Edit: BTW, I pay 329/month on the R and $95 a month in insurance. 26 years old, one speeding ticket left over from two years ago still on my record.

Call your insurance company or use a web service like http://www.insweb.com and they can tell you exactly how much it will cost you for insurance, which may be different for someone else in a different location with a different age and driving record.

I kind of agree, I've been looking at leasing a TT or some other more professional car for a few weeks now. The cops, stunnas, and theft worries are really starting to get to me. Before you get an R keep in mind every retard in a CRX with an exhaust, or in their mothers Civic WILL try to race you, even if it means nearly driving you off the road to get you to acknowledge them. Cops WILL pull you over for no reason. You will always be looking out your window, and if you can't see the car, you'll sit there with your fingers crossed that it's still there.

I've wanted an R all my life, and now that I have one... ehh, it's like dating a really really hot chick that's great in bed who has 2 tons of emotional baggage. That's pretty much the best way anyone can describe the R owning experience.

That must be a yellow ARRR thing. I have hardly been harassed with my CW. but I'm still always worried

Larkin who votes EK hatch w/ b18c5 because I love EK hatches, Insurance will be super cheap, and less attention

As daily drivers ITR's and hybrids suck! Because they are theft magnets! A nice sleeper 240SX would be nice, since a simple exhaust and wheel combo will make the car discreet enough to keep the stunnas away. Happy wrenching!

as far as on the streets everyone who has ever saw my car has heard from somebody that i always got a little something up my sleeve and doesnt even bother to try and race me or rev on me . its kinda depressing becuase i have all this power and nobody willing to test me

This statement REALLY bothers me tremendously. I never get pulled over, and i live in your area. NEVER. I don't have a ticket, a warning, NOTHING that involved the police with my PY, and I have been running around with my test pipe and fujitsubo exhaust waiting for my cat to show up (got it, thanks Mike M!!) and have had no trouble.

My R has no emotional baggage. Take your R to 'bed' (i.e., the track) and you won't ever regret your decision to buy it.

What did you expect? You have a yellow car. I ignore the stunnas, and after a few months, they recognize you and leave you alone. If you are getting pulled over for no reason, I say there is a reason... because I drive 'spirited' and have never had a cop problem.

Just so you know TT coupes AND convertables are very dissatisfying.

I live in a small town so the import "scene" is basically non-existant so I don't have to deal with theft issues at all.

On my list I had things like B16 w supercharger on an EK since I could probably do that with around the same amount i would spend on an EK with a B18C5 right or just paying monthly and getting a jdm front.

Basically I'll have about 6-7gs to thrown on some upgrades and I'm looking to pay monthly for my ride. oh, and i'm not a big fan of yellow cars so if i cant find a low mileage cw R then I'll have to get a yellow or black one and get it sprayed.

anyone know how much labor is gonna run me on a swap?

Thanks for your opinions

It's ******' nuts man. The Oswego/Naperville area is fairly low-crime, so the cops have nothing better to do than harass people minding their own business driving to work. A few days after I got my R I was driving to work down 59 and I got stopped by a cop because he said it 'looked like' I was driving fast, he didn't get me on radar, and as I recall I MAY have been going 5 miles over, nothing ridiculous... But after giving my car a good once over he let me on my way.

Then another time I was driving and it was really cold, I had just started my car and I was trying to get it to warm up quicker for some heat driving down 71 in Oswego going 35 in 1st or 2nd at like 5k RPM's and I got pulled over for some noise ordinence bullshit. WITH A STOCK EXHAUST!

I've been tailgated by a cop riding so close to my *** I thought he was going to ram me with my radar dector screaming bloody murder, I guarantee you had I gone 1 mph over the limit I'd have gotten a ticket...

It's **** like that which makes me want to ditch the R. I don't drive like an idiot, I go to work, my girlfriend's house, and home. Going the speed of traffic.

Wow, they are ghey over there. I'm in the Northbrook/Deerfield and Lake Forest area every day with no trouble. Up and down I94 and Rt 41 and every other large street in between with no trouble, not even a second look. Odd.

Get your car to the track, neighbor. All this ***** you are putting up with around town seems somewhat unimportant after you find out what your car was made for!!!

Long story short: come to the expo.

Amen Chris! I just wish I would have done an HPDE with my GS-R.

I ignore the stunnas
I do my best too. After visiting my friend Adam and Jake the other night, I couldn't really help laugh my *** off at a CRX with $50 fart can muffler aimed sideways and APC aluminum wing. It's a disgrace to owners like us.

Back to the topic. '97 R.... bought July '02, $18k, 48 month loan, 6.4% interest, $426/mo, $1350/yr full converage (100/300/100), $75/mo storage (but that's my choice... just choose to park it in winter)

'89 Civic Si, bought 5 weeks ago, $1800, $420/yr full coverage (100/300/100), makes me GREATLY appreciate my R even in stock trim.
