Tires: Dunlop SP8000 vs Yoko ES100 vs Falken Azenis Sport?
Need to pick a new set of tires and I was going to go with the SP8000s again, but I noticed their price has gone up, so I was looking at some alternatives... preferably cheaper than the SP8000s (my need to buy tires is not planned or welcomed... bad camber sucks).
I'm happy with my SP8000s, so I want a tire that matches them or is better. Want to get atleast 30-40kmi out of them (got 30k on these, would have had 40+k if I had better camber). I don't drag, but I do a few track days a year... probably 2-3, usually at Thunderhill.
The Yoko's have some good reviews, but I read Williard's review of them and it looked kinda ugly. I probably won't be driving them that hard though. The Azenis have some mixed reviews... so not sure about them.
They both are cheaper than the SP8000s, which is good since my car has been demanding more money from me every week. Luckily, it should be like new after a few more unwelcomed expenses.

for dry get the azenis...those things grip better than an alligator with its mouth closed...i have sp8000 and i like them a lot...for the price though i say stick with the azenis...people dont like the azenis 1. because they are a bit on the heavy side i believe . and 2. they are supposedly horrible in water...my friend has them on his car and he hasnt had any problems with them at all..he said he liked them also because on his 15's the tire sticks out a bit farther than the rim so if you get a bit to close you will rub the tire instead of curbing your rim
Just thought I'd add... I drive an average of 20k a year, and I'm only planning on keeping the car 1.5-2 years, so I was hoping these would be my last set of tires. Also, planning on getting 205/50R15.
I'll probably go with the ES100s. It has a better tread ware, I've heard less mixed things, and following the philosophy "you get what you pay for", they'll be better than the Azenis and hopefully live up to the Dunlops.
I'm still open to suggestion though.

The ES100's have a soft sidewall...something you probably wouldn't like during those track days. But still, they are great tires for the money.
I'd go to tirerack and take advantage of the pricing for the Bridgestone S-03's in the 195/50-15 size. Have the best of everything.

they still make the SP8000's? I was told a while ago by Discount tire center that they stopped making them..
anyway I'm on my 2nd.. going to be 3rd set of Dunlop SP9000's.. I absolutely love these things... the SP8000's are supposed to be a little better in dry from what I've heard but I haven't been able to source them in my size... 205/45/16 so I got the SP9000's...
the Azenis get pretty good praise on here and my friend has them on his stock GSR 15's and he likes them but we haven't really gotten any huge downpour here in So Cal so can't tell you how they are in wet/rain..
the ES100's from the few miles people I know have put on them they sound decent but none of my friends have had them for a long time since its a relatively new tire.. so can't say for sure..

I ended up going with the Azenis... price was pretty good and I can have America's Tire Co order them and install them.
