People with a Thermal exhaust on your 4th Gen. Opinions?? Sound clips??
Hey guys, I have a 92 Lude Si and I will need to change my exhaist soon. I have been recommended to get the Thermal Classic or the Gredy SP. Most have said that the Thermal wil last longer and sound a little deeper. I want a deep yet somewhat quiet exhaust. I am looking for sound clips for one but have yet to find any.
Any opinions/recommendations?? Where should I buy from?? Best price I have found so far is $470 shipped to me. Good deal??
TIA

i had a Thermal on my 95 Accord with a H22, and it sounded awsome. Now i have a 92 Si and i'm going to trasnplant the H22 into the lude and buy another Thermal for it. I just like the sound it made with my Accord so i figure why not buy it for the lude.
Sorry no sound clips, i can only tell you what i've heard from my own car.

it is very deep, kinda annoying at highway, but nothing you cant drown with some music. it's sounds really nice though. very low infact, if you are inside the car at higher rpms it seems liek it is getting quieter.

Thanks again for your help.
I am not sure how much gain is actually aquired on a prelude, but i read that greddy and tanabe had some of the best gains in the turbo area. I will have to look at the turbo issue i read this in. They were tested on a wrx as well and they placed pretty high. Let me know if you want me to look it up.
at the risk of sounding n00bish.......
whats a THERMAL exhuast? how does it differ from a.......... apexi n1??

Basically they are full SS piping and mufflers are made by Magnaflow (a quality company), so they hold up very well.
I've got the GReddy SP and I'm happy with it. It's deep and quite sounding. When you get on it's really not all that loud. Not sure about the power gains.
i have a 92 prelude with thermal , its loud all the time but thats the way i like it. I would say get it,you'll be happy with it, but since your looking for something thats deep but quite , i'd say that the a'pex world sport would be good for you. One of my friends has it on his teg and its quite until u get on it and very throaty(deep sounding).

My debacle is whether to maintain a sleeper car or get one that sounds cool while I am driving. I don't want to attract ANY attention to my car. What to do?? What to do?? I am even seriously considering paining the muffler flat black so it looks stock.
Do you know if the WS puts out more gains than the Thermal?? From my research I have seen that most say that the Thermal really does not have any performance gains. True??
I am scared about regretting an exhaust because of the sound. My Prelude is my second car so I don't think the noise will get on my nerves as much since I have a completely stock other car which I drive during nice weather days. I haven't seen many people trying to sell either the WS or the Thermal s I guess they must be pretty good exhausts.
Where did you get yours from?? $$?? Best I have found is $470 shipped to me.
Thank you ALL for your help. It is GREATLY appreciated.

I have the GReddy PE and I am very pleased with it. I've had it for 2 years now. I'm not sure of the gains but the sound is nice and deep and doesn't get annoying when your doing 80 or up above the 4500rpm mark

Hmmmm, this decision is hard.

If you are look for no attention and black sleeper exhauts, then RS*R ex-mag is your best bet.

got a pic of the painted canister? im also looking for an exhaustbut i dont want it to be noticable with the sound, and the looks...i would like it black..that would be nice!
I just installed a Thermal (Stealth model) on my H23 Lude
As said above it's deep and louder at low rpm, and quieter at high rpm.. The sound is excellent ! The build quality is way above average.
Did anyone make a dyno with a Thermal ? I'd like to know the gains (butt dyno says: wow not bad, but that is not a number
)...
It's not *too* loud (maybe because it's the Stealth model, i don't know about the Classic), as recently i went past a police control without them even noticing me.

I have a Tanabe Ultra Medallion. Deepest exhaust but it is very very deep/loud. Your best bet is an RSR. A friend has one on an accord, and it is stock quiet when cruising, but sounds like a 350z when you get on it. Good Luck.

Sounds similar to mine. I thought the Classic was supposed to be louder the Stealth. Either way, I don't think I could've asked for a better sounding exhaust. It is not that typical bee-buzzing around in a tin-can sound. It's deep and aggressive.
I didn't notice any increase in power on the butt-dyno. I also mounted a new Carsound cat when I put the exhaust on, too. I think the increase is too little to tell.

Exactly, the sound is better than other custom stainless steel exhausts i've seen on some friends' ludes. It's quite an evil thing though, as the sound at WOT and high rpm is .. addictive !
We compared it to a few other bolt-on cat-backs and it is quite superior in quality and finish.
I felt some gains with the butt dyno, maybe these can be attributed to the test pipe (actually a small resonator), as always one must consider the whole exhaust from the header, as it's the weakest link that restricts the power.
Thumbs up for Thermal R&D ! Their products work as advertised...
(edit) i'll try to get a sound clip, as soon as i can get some kind of recorder...
