ok I finally got my car back from the shop...88dx hb to a b16a w/the J1 trans....tons of power....likin it a bunch....now my questioins....
1. My a/c belt tensioner sounds like the bearings are going bad...is that tensioner off my old motor or from the B16? stock compressor Haspost a/c bracket.
2. They told me to not go about 6000 rpm for 500 miles to break it in...this motor is not new but has sat for a while...I am obeying this to not blow my warranty on it, but is it really absolutely necessary?
3. At what rpm does the VTEC switch over?
4. What will this motor do w/the J1 trans topping out?
5. What is the best point to shift at when racing? Where is the peak power at?
6. Does anyone has showcar insurance to cover for their mods???
7. My exhaust manifold cover bolt is touching the radiator fan on the drivers side. I have been told this fan is for my a/c...if true will it hurt much to remove it?
8. Has anyone replaced their fifth gear for something a little taller???If so what gear(s) from what trans?

1) Unless you supplied them with a new tensioner i doubt they would give you one without charging you specifically for a new tensioner. With that said, Im not sure if the d16 one would work, its possible but honestly not sure.

2) Re-Break in? Dont think so, id take it easy for about a 100 miles, not for the motors sake but for the workmanship sake, things dont always get installed right the first time around, especially when dealing with a motor that was not really meant to be in the car. As far as motor break in goes, that was done about 10 years ago so you should be ok.

3) PR3 i believe is 5k.

4) id say around 125-130 if its near the s1 ratios, which i think it is.

5) prob shift right around 8k, mabye 7800

6) no

7) 2 options) 1- get an aftermarket header (I recommend comptech) 2- take a dremel and shave away the part that is hitting on the fan.

8) no i havent, i think you can do a 90-91 ls 5th gear to lose some rpms while cruising.

do those mass reproced chips on ebay work good...? to pass speed limiter?
