ITR vs s2000....results on tonight and thoughts about the s2000
a few of you know i have a gsr converted to a itr with a 2L. tonight a guy with a stock s2000 raced drag on a real track and then went at it on the back roads...i know you guys dont like street racing, but we were in the country...needless to say i smoked him on the drag and then on the way home through the turns. then we get to the bar and he tells me the s2000 handles so much better than a stock itr and that the s2000 this and that and the SCCA results show the s2000 is so much better...honestly i think he is ridiculous, i am running an itr suspension with the itr swaybars and all and it handles much better than his s2k...do you guys agree or do you think the s2k is that much better. i am the only one that thinks the s2k is overated?
I just drove a S2000 at autox today. I had previously driven S2000s on the street and track, but never really explored the full limits of the car until today.
All I have to say is the S2000 feels far more precise and balanced than the ITR, stock for stock.
Sadly, most S2000/ITR owners don't track their cars and will never experience the true driving pleasure that their cars can offer.
Also one cannot make claims about his car based on what others have said of his car. One can only vouch for how HE can drive HIS car.

true i agree on the last part of your post. i can drive far better than my friend. i dont know, maybe i am just biased towards the itr. he then goes on to tell me that there is no way to make the s2k faster. i guess he never heard of the aem ecu or other mild mods you can do to it from toda. oh well it was fun whipping his *** all tonight

Bob - who's puny little ITR was faster than a new NSX and BMW Z8 at his last track event.
see thats what i mean, everyone claims this and that, but no one can or wants to prove it. anyone can read c&d and claim a nsx can do the 1/4 in 12.7 but many owners that i know that go to the strip pull like 13.1 or so and get pissed when i pull in at 12.7 or so. and then they say this or that, and my car this and....i really dont care just back it up if you car can do that. it can but obviously you cant.

thats why they are not FF.
there are certain trade offs with FF and FR.
if you ever watch a rally on ice, you will see plenty of FF cars owning FR and keeping up with AWD
I love the Type R but I've seen an S2000 "properly" auto-x'd and they are significantly faster in real time than the Type R. I have a friend who is an excellent driver and a codriver who placed in the top 10 at nationals in an S2000. I have beaten the former on PAX time (corrected for the cars in different classes) but in actual times, they are usually 2-3 seconds faster than the Type R on a 40-50 second course. No question that with the right driver in the turns, the car is much faster. Interestingly, their times in the S2000 were often as good and sometimes better than some very good drivers in the Z06 corvettes (one of them placed one spot out of the trophies at nationals).

Lateral Acceleration doesn't mean much in terms of how a car handles. You can put slicks on a stock Neon and probably pull close to or over a 1G.
i personally think my friend knows nothing about his car
maybe i should borrow it from him and practice a little with it
and yes FR owns FF on most courses

It's kinda funny to see him shift at 6,000rpm when we are leaving for work in the morning....this is like 5 secs after he turns the car on
sometimes I just feel like slapping him.The other day he asked me to take a look at it cause he was having problems.....he wasn't able to redline second gear from time to time....it turns out he wasnt letting the car warm up before trying it.....who thinks I should just take it away from him?
the s2k handles much better than ITR stock for stock, i've driven both and would pick the s2k anyday. as someone stated before, FR>FF. the only problem with the s2k is that it has bump steer but i didnt notice it.

I never met an S2000 who was really fast. All I saw was a tracktest, where I saw the S2k falling over the track like a drunk grannie. S2K
I drove it myself an was disappointed... Too peaky and much weaker than I expected.... But it has been long ago I drove a STOCK ITR... Maybe that`s my problem with the S2k

Between semi-functional oil squireter and weak connecting rods, all I can say is that I'm glad my S2000 is under warranty. There are a rash of problems with these things, however, I'm having an engine built right now that should make my S2K as fun as my ITR.

Buy one and drive it the way you drive your ITR and you'll see what I mean. Then if you decide to modify it, you'll be looking for axles and transmissions that are custom built. I think if you look at some of the S2K boards, you'll find plenty of people that have windowed engines like I have.
trust me dude the list is about a mile long...differentials breaking, malfuctioning oil squirters, bad clutches, back firing, etc etc etc its major **** too I know b/c I was going to buy one but decided to go with the r (cost and reliablity)

Even if thats the case, its the only scientific measure of handling besides slalom speed. And without a scientific measure, you're left with the "it feels faster" BS.

I will say this about the S2000. It's nice to drive a rear wheel drive car for a change, in fact it's so nice that I'm willing to spend the bucks to see about 385 NA HP at the crank and address all the driveline problems too.
The power number isn't a mistake either. I've personally witnessed one of these 2.2 liter engines make that much at 10K and I can't wait to smoke some Corvettes with it.
