Quick question, need answers!!
Hey guys, I was at the scrapyard today and found both a D15B1 in a 4 door DX and a D15B2 in a 4 door wagon both 1990's. My question is this, I have an 89 STD hatch and would like to get the upgraded cam and ECU to jump the power a little bit but I'm not sure which car I should pull the pieces from. Can you tell me?? Plus, is there any other parts that I can take off of these motors to make mine a little faster? and finally, will the 5-speed out of the DX help the motor rev a little quicker? Thanks for the help guys and I always appreciate your responses!
I wouldnt waste my time on those two motors. Unless you will be doing some pretty crazy setup. If anything, just get the trans, and look for a a6 dpfi setup. Just my opinion though.
k
a cam and a ECU will not give u any noticeable gains in power on the car... u have a 70 hp shitty engine.... even if that cam and ecu might give u 5 hp u wont fell it....
even 10 hp.. the diff its very litle... and u have spend work and money into it...
if i were u illl go around and look for a SOHC VTEC head... thats actually ur cehapest route... if u want some noticeable gains..
if u really wanna mod that lil engine... change FI... go from DPFI to MPFI.. that will do something...
hope i helped...

The reason the STD engines only have 70hp is because the DPFI throtle body is so small and restrictive, It won't allow any more air to get through to give you any more power, Cam and ECU from another DPFI car will do NOTHING for you. As was said above, if you want to get a little more power to get you by, do an MPFI swap, you'll need to do the MPFI rewire for the engine you want to put in anyway.
As for the DX 5-speed tranny, it will help fuel economy, but that's about it. if you want a tranny that will accually make you quicker, you need the lower gear ratio of the Si tranny.
So, what you're looking for as you cruise the scrapyards:
89-91 Si tranny
(these would all be needed to perform an MPFI swap
88-91 Si/EX Intake manifold w/ TB and all sensors
88-91 Si/EX Distributor
88-91 Si/EX ECU
88-91 Si/EX engine wire harness
88-91 Si/EX injector resistor box
