Has anyone heard of propane injection instead of nitrous? I heard a guy try to sell someone on getting a propane injection kit instead of a nitrous kit. I personally never heard of such a thing. sounds to me that propane is a fuel and injecting into the intake would make any car run like crap, but I could be wrong. Has anyone here used it, or know of someone who has? when I asked the guy what the deal was on propane injection he said it was something new people were doing and that's all he had to say. Who I ask? What's it about? And most of all, How does it work?

Why you would want to run your motor on propane is beyond me. Maybe for emissions... it burns pretty clean

For reel? I mean I can't think of any race motors that run on propane... just indoor vehicles. ??
[e] Anyways its a lot easier to get extra fuel in the motor than more air... seems to me adding propane would displace air = less power

i have seen alot of "alternate fuel" propane vehicles run around on campus. I imagine they get a nice kickback for doing so.... apparently they only need to modify the fuel storage and delivery components of the vehicle.
Gee that looks safe
Normal gas turbo engines can use it as well. It essentialy raises the octane which for turbo cars is like running race gas at the flip of a switch.
Do any of you guys watch Horsepower TV? A while back they did an episode where they took their Ram Diesel and put air bags and propane injection on it, and laid down like and extra 100hp or something like that. They slammed that thing too
Oh yeah I never sleep, thats why I wasted my time watching the whole show if you're wondering

I saw that horse power tv show. The reason for installing a propane injection kit is because propane has a higher octane. You can run more boost safely. So by injecting propane you are in sence adding octane boost.
Propane makes boost and makes it cold!!! We have been running it on my friends Mits. GTO (3000 vr4) for quite a while. we saw the boost go from 18psi to 23psi and the car now puts out 623 whp from 561. It works well, and make an insane sound when dumping. Not sure what the effect would be on an N/A motor. I never even considered it.
EDIT: They do make a kit app for honda's

I have some friends who use it in conjunction with nitrous on their vipers, helps make a shitload of torque.

this thread went from a diesel only mod, to something I can do in my shop.
damn.
Anymore info on the 3000gt, and what the setup needed?
Maybe where he put the jet?

ok....
Propane is because:
It super-cools the intake charge.
It have an effective Octane Rating of around 113 (I gotta recheck this number)
Most Importantly, Propane is a FUEL.
It's not like nitrous, where It only adds the Oxygen part of the equation. It adds fuel. This is why Diesel make so much power with them. They already have all the air\compression they need...they just need more fuel to make power.
This is also why Vipers\Corvettes use it in conjunction with Nitrous. Nitrous provides the extra air and the propane provides the extra fuel.
More on this later, gotta goto work.
