Type R Redline / Fuel cut
What is it? Friends and I are having a discussion about the Type R redline, is it 8400? Want to hear it from people own the car instead of speculation. Without ECU modifications, straight out the factory.

Well... redline is at 8400 RPMs, but I don't agree with the Fuel Cutoff at ~8500.
My car shows fuel cutoff at 8900 RPM, I know tachometers aren't very accurate BUT my VTEC crosses over at 5800 ~ 6000 on the gauges, so I think to a certain extent (plus or minus 200 RPMS) fuel cutoff is around 8900.
The specs show 8500, but I don't agree with it. We need Dennis to test it out with his super fly JDM spoom cluster.
You guys just have ***** R's

mine bounces the rev limiter at 9600, done it a few times. gauge seems correct, Vtec kicks in right where it is supposed to, but need another gauge to see if it is close.
see, automatic that someone would say no that the tach isn't that wrong. Get a vafc and then tell me I am wrong.
8400/8500 (Read the brochure).
Then get a VAFC and learn how right they are.
Digital to analog signal seems to create error.
just cause the tach is right at 6k, doesnt mean its even close to being near right at 8500. damn wound spring mechanism gets less accurate the higher it spins....
wow, i never knew it varies that much. All I can vouch for is that I can get to about 8600 and then shift. I will never take it past that on purpose even if the fuel cutoff is higher than that. I have hit the cutoff before on accident and didnt see the actual rpm.
It is 8400/8500. Period. However, a fuel cut is just that, a fuel cut. It does not stop the motor from revving above 8500 for a brief moment. VAFC will usually show ~8600. Of course, one is then assuming that the VAFC and the sensors are 100% accurate.

ok guys....we just got through discussing, your tach may read xxxx when the limiter kicks in, but the fact is the motor stops at 8500. the only reason you're getting higher readings the factory tach is inaccurate at high RPMs...

its gotta be higher then 8500...
i saw 8429 on my vafc and i have a gsr..
but then again its norm at about 8300 so i guess it can fluctuate a few hundred

If it wasn't super windy right now I'd go take a run in my car with VAFC and digi video camera and see where the fuel cut happens.
edit- Maybe I'll do it tomrrow.

If someone has some proof somehow, that'd be nice.
Otherwise, I'll stick with 8,900 fuel cut...

I can't find my scanned image of the brochure but I will scan it again.
I don't really see how you guys can argue that the Tach is right when we all know it is WRONG from the factory.
The ECU fuel cuts at 8500rpm. The VAFC reads the tach wire, so by using the VAFC as your guide you are assuming that both the VAFC and the signal on the tach wire are 100% accurate.
As for those of your looking at the tach as proof.. well I don't know what to say about that..
