Default more suspension questions.. Apex N1 vs. Tein HA

Both are used. Both have pillow mounts. Both are the same price.

I don't know anything about the Apex N1s. I've heard some rather distasteful reviews on their quality, but it seems like it's only isolated to the 96-00 civic chassis.

Anyone ever make a comparison between the two?

Also, what kind of spring rates do the N1s have?

In Southern California? I doubt it.
I had them on my previous car and never had any problems.

I have had mine for about 8 months now, drive my car everyday, the threads have not rusted (yet) but the little part where you can adjust the settings, has started to rust in the front under the hood, and that is my fault, being careless.

I'll agree to that. But it's not that bad...not bad enough to where you can't adjust the dampening.

I guess what I'm really after is a review on the N1s. I know enough about the HAs to know I like them. But I'm not sure which of the two set ups is actually better

edit: sorry cant help you with the N1's but i think Ed (yellow blur) as them, hopefully he sees this thread

I searched a while back and I think I remember the rates (for the N1's) being something like 11k front/ 5k rear.... I could be off, I'm going off of my shitty memory

Here Fowler- you buy them and find out how they go, let me know so down the line when I have money I can pick some up

my bro had the apex n1's on his 99 si for about a week before he sold it to some fella up in the bay area...he said it was too stiff, the ride was too rough...said he would enjoy them on the track but insist on buying my ha's off of me...

i heard that the apex n1's were quality coilovers...pretty pricey imho but they are apex...just my .02 man...

Wow- Katman's had a lot of suspensions. Nice reviews.
The reason I'm thinking of going with the Apex'i N1's is the fact that they are independently height adjustable and I already have GC's with 400lb/500lb spring rates (on stock shocks ).... so if it is too soft I could always switch out the ERS springs

Make sure you know if you are talking about 99 Spec N1's or 00+ Spec N1's.

They changed in 2000 and the price doubled.

Trey is right; the new spec N1s (Type V and Type Pro) cost a LOT more than the 99 Spec N1s.

HA, twin tube.
N1, mono tube, shock body length adjustable.

so in my book, N1 >> HA(they are entry level suspension anyway)

i was surprised that the guy in hybrid.jp like HA more over all the mono tube suspension.

You'll need to upgrade the spring rates on the Apex N1s... A good combo is 14k in the front and 10K in the rear... I've been through Tien HAs, Apex N1s, and now Tien REs... The Apex N1s can be rebuilt/upgraded by a good suspension shop... You can use 2.5" diameter springs on the Apex N1s (they fit perfect)... Skunk2 sells different spring rates and thats what i used.

What do you use your car for?

How often does in see the track?

In what context are you "very happy with your Tein"?

My Teins rusted a little also where the adjustment **** was. I don't see what the big deal is. It was a small price to pay for the great handling, adjustablity, and ride characteristics they gave my ITR. Especially when at the track!

I have HA on my ITR for 8 track days. Using 14K and 12K springs..
I also tried the RA on my friend's ITR, all I can say is mono tube is wayyy better on track. On street driving, you probably won't feel much differences. Also, tried to get a good set of coilover where you can adjust the suspension travel.
HA have very little travel distance even when I only lowered it 1.75 all around.

has anyone compared the shock bodies between both. tein is significantly longer. that and non adjustable lower collar means your limited in the amount of drop you can have without effecting suspension travel
food for thought...

TEIN Flex's have the adjustable lower collar design I believe.
