How to: Replace OEM CD player & cassette player
So my 97R come with OEM CD plus the damn cassette which I never used. ANd the CD was bad recently so I got a new headunit but I am wondering should I do the installation myself or have a shop like bestbuy to do it. Does it worth the time and effort? I don't wanna do it wrong, can someone please post a detail procedure to educate me? Thanks.
I think the hardest part is to take out the old unit, anyone has good suggestion or trick to do it quick?

Umm, I think this is right... I would just go buy a connector from your local stereo shop for $20 bucks.. Install is a breeze..

Armrest Removal
(If you've got small hands, you can remove the stock radio without taking apart the arm rest. You can reach the two bolts which hold the stock radio from the back of the console with a small screw driver. It is easier from the passenger side. )
Otherwise:
1. Remove access cap inside emergency brake handle indention.
2. Remove the 2 screws found underneath the cap. Be careful not to scratch the plastic.
3. Slide the front seats forward and remove the 4 screws that hold the base of the armrest.
4. Lift up slightly on the front section of the rear console to detach the two connecting hooks at the front. Now, lift the hand brake and remove the rear
section of the console by sliding it towards the front of the car.
Main Console Removal
1. Remove the ashtray (as if you were going to clean it out).
2. Remove the 2 screws behind the ashtray (deep inside - careful not to lose the screws). Disregard the middle screw, it is unimportant.
3. Remove the ashtray/lighter panel by pulling towards you (it is held in place by clips - the red arrow in the middle shows what it clips into). Disconnect the lighter wiring harness when accessible. Be careful not to lose the 2 metal clips holding in the panel!
4. With a 5-spd., remove the shift **** by twisting counter clockwise. Automatics, remove the console panel which exposes the transmission gear position indicator panel.
5. Remove the 2 screws on the front sides of the console (red arrow on the left).
6. Remove the 2 screws on the bottom/front of the console (located in the foot-well area - red arrow on the right).
7. Gently prying the sides of the front of the console outward (they snap), remove the console completely.
Radio Removal
1. The radio is actually held in place by only two Philips/8mm bolts. Contrary to other models you may have encountered, the two bolts are found at the rear of the unit (there are no bolts on the sides). Take a look at them from underneath before continuing.
2. Decide on the best method of removing them (you can use a Philips head and try to get a good grip at that angle, or you can use a ratchet with an 8mm (3/8") bit - my choice... it's difficult, but necessary!)
3. Remove the black antenna lead from the passenger-side rear of the unit.
4. Pull the head unit and storage tray out (or push from the rear), making sure to disconnect the wiring harness (and CD cable if applicable) once the slack is gone.
5. You're Done!
