Default Are 88 front shocks different from 89-91?

I know the rear suspension is different between 88 and 89-91 Civics, but now I notice that the front shocks Bilstein sells are 89-91 and the Tokico seem to have different model numbers for 88 and 89-91. Can anyone clear me up on this? Are 88 and 89-91 front shocks interchangeable?

There is a difference in the 88 shocks. The brake lines mount differently. Other than that, they are the same.

Ya, I have a set of 88's on th front of my 90 hatch and had to break off the front mounting tab. Other than that, same height, size, everything else.

88 rear incorporates passive rear steering, with ITR style eye mounts for the shocks. Never lower an 88 too much, as it induces snap oversteer.

The fronts should work fine, I sold a set of 91 CRX Si front struts to a friend of mine on his 88 CRX HF and there werent any fitment issues

What would be considered to low? I was planning on lowering my 88 EF (koni yellows/skunk2) about 1.5 inches so I want to be sure that will not be too low.

My 88 is lowered 1.75 inches (I think, H&R race) and there is no snap oversteer, the car is very neutral.

I had initial setup issues with the car. If you have a good (stiff) rear brace and a stiff sway bar, it will rotate. Keep it above 2" and it should be fine. The EF rotates better than my EG as well, which is great for throttle steering.
