Default for those who rebuilt thier transmission please help!!

my '89 accord's transmission finally gave up on me..

(automatic) it will only stay in first gear and wont shift..

i am thinking about just junking the car because rebuilding the tranny might not be worth it...

i was wondering if anyone had the same problem and how much did it cost overall to get it done (transmission specialist, parts, labor etc.)...

noone wants to give me an exact quote, but i am assuming it is going to be well over 2000...

give me your input, thanks in advance

Having my tranny rebuilt two years ago totalled $1600. It's been fine ever since. If you're on a budget and LOVE your car, pay the $$ to get the tranny rebuilt. Otherwise, sell it and get something newer.

How much is your car worth these days? I'd use that as a determining factor whether or not you fix or sell.

a used auto tranny for a 89' shouldn't be too expensive from a auto salvage yard. The 86-89 trannies are particularly robust; I'm not sure where they were built but my friend's 89 LXi had 286k miles on it before he got rid of it. The last 140k was run hard too.

Find one local to you here: http://www.switchboard.com

search for "auto wrecking" in the business categories

call around, ppl will have different prices...

Look around and on ebay. I've seen those trannys for $200. Pay a mechanic to swap it out if you can't do it yourself and your still ahead. It depends on how strong your 89 is. I know my 3rd gens run very strong and it would be worth it.
