Default My dyno plots (stock vs. open JDM 4-1)

My car is almost stock except for a dented AEM filter that my friend gave me and I duct taped on the elbow into my stock airbox.(stock header/exhaust in tact)

To compare, we bolted on a Honda JDM 4-1 and ran that open header.(no exhaust)

Here are the results. These were the highest recorded, all after three pulls. Done in 4th gear pulls on a Dynojet Model 248 above ground. It was cold out also, in the low 40's.

In restrospect, I wish I would have compared the same setups with and without the ps belt.

Big thanks to Charles @ CJ-motorsports, Chris N and Todd for helping me swap headers. Would have posted this sooner but digi-cam was broken.
Have a nice holiday also!

The first plot was from my car stock except the filter up/down grade. Stock exhaust.

The header made a big difference
Those are good gains in horsepower and torque

So you are comparing stock header with stock exhaust to JDM 4-1 with open exhaust here?

Scott, you have the strongest stock motor we have yet seen.
Please think twice before you decide to sell it......!! Or sell it to me.

OK, I'm sorry if I sound like the Greench (sp) that stole Christmas here but, I found it stupid to do this type of comparison. It's ok for like an experiment for the heck of it but, nobody run their cars with open header in the street or circuit track (don't now about drag racing) and, besides, the comparison between a stock exhaust in a stock motor vs same motor with open JDM header is more than ovious there should be gains, doh!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Edit: BTW, this is just my opinion. Don't take it personal.

I ran my car for more than 2 months straight open header and have done it many times before that for weeks at a time. Just ask my neighbors.

The power steering belt has never been removed.

That's awesome. I dyno'd 164.6/120.7, 164.8/121.5, and 165.6/120.2 four hours before... stock w/ power steering. Again, too bad I missed the ruckus.

Scott made mad stock power!!

We also figured out that you can put the gasket on only one way!!!

There was no way to hook up the stock exhaust to the jdm 4-1, or we would have done that too. Too bad we didn't think to run open header, stock itr header, that is.

Open header runs were SO DAMNED LOUD. Not nearly as loud in the cabin, but pretty damned awful from outside.

My 2.5" DC 4-1 vtec spike looks very similar: (my graph only takes up half the page, so the spike looks less severe....)

I wish the hp/tq didn't overlap as they do on this chart. HP goes from ~103-104 to ~135 on the sharp incline at vtec engagement.

I would not go as far as that.
*it was on open header. George Knighton's car made 2 more peak hp with full exhaust and cat.
*my own car made 172, with a Comptech Icebox, on a hot-*** day.

The numbers are nice, and I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but they are with open header. I would be surprised if everyone with a JDM 4-1 DIDN'T hit 180whp running open.

The were commenting on his 'stock' graph - 169.3 and 119.9, not the open header graph.

169 is pretty damned good for bone stock. The intake arm is the only thing that is replaced. stock airbox, stock resonator.
