Default Evo7 GSR vs. JDM DC5 Type R

Will be returning to Asia where these two cars are very similar in price (the Evo7 is approx US$3k more expensive).

I love my Hondas -- I drive an EG6 SiR -- so I'm really quite partial to the Integra R but then again an Evo 7 seems like it's in a totally different ball park. Alternatively I can get a used JDM DC2R, plenty of cash for mods and lots of change.

I guess this is suited to a poll but I would like to hear some opinions for/against both cars.

Opinions?

Cheers...

The EVO7 and the dc5R look like they would feel bloated driving through the turns, if it was me I woould opt for a dc2r or a evo6, and the fact that gansan said that he likes the dc2 is better.

evo will wipe the floor with the dc2/5.
even though the evo is unreliable at times and weighs like as much as a supra
its still the 2nd or 3rd fastest stock production car in japan. not nearly as slow
as the gtr.

Evo 7 = Very fast and very easy to handle.
It's a different kind of fun between the Type R and the Evo. It's a pretty subjective thing to say, but the Evo would not offer as much "race car feel" as the DC2R (never driven a DC5R).

Just like the Miata and MR-S, they are slow but it's hella fun to drive.

Good point about the track use...

The car will be a daily driver, no doubt, but I don't live too far from Sepang F1 circuit (where the local car clubs often have open days) so I'd be crazy not to get some of that action. There are other tracks in the area, but that's the one to mark on the calendar. BUT the car will be the daily driver and I can't see myself installing stiffly sprung coilovers or an N1 exhaust system.

I think the factors that come to mind are:

(1) Reliability (i.e. maintenance/operating costs); no doubt Evo6/7 would be higher -- more petrol is consumed, more expensive replacement parts and to top it off, less reliable. A second hand Evo6 would have to have a pretty damn good history to be considered. A used DC2R, on the other hand, would most likely run like clockwork.

(2) Comfort -- the car will be a daily driver so Lancer Evo would no doubt be more convenient. i. 4 doors ii. general quietness of a turbo car (but a Mugen silencer would serve just as nicely) iii. wider torque band (but amazingly Hondas can do this thing called "dropping gears" ). Hmm... Also, the fact that it's a daily driver rules out cars like S15 Silvia, since it's really a 2 person car and the RWD does not suit wet weather conditions with still water a whole lot (not to mention my inexperience with RWD cars -- then again that could be a reason to get one).

(3) Honda vs. Mistubishi; I'm a Honda man! My daily drivers have been 3 Civics (EF carby, EG6 SiR, EK sedan).... if I was staying in Australia, no doubt my next car would be a DC2R. If there's one thing I know and love, it's B-block engines.

(4) bling factor; it's always nice to have a current model. Then again, I'm not after a whole lot of attention from cops or thieves. If this was the main factor for me, I think I'd rate 1)Evo7 2)DC5R 3)Evo5/6 4) DC2R...

Hmmm....

Who'm I kidding -- unless I happen to get an outstanding deal on any of the other cars, I can't see myself not getting a DC2R

As nice as all those other cars are, I'd say get a low mileage 2000 Spec DC2R, and add basic mods like Mugen lowdows, twin-loop cat back, airbox, etc.
And have yourself a super reliable, yet respectable street car.

Why is that... (other than it looks ugly from the back)

Most reviews I've heard say the AYC is a huge leap over the 6.5 TME...

first of all 6 is soooo much better looking than 7

seven

second, seven is so much bigger...you sense this by the pictures, but if you actually see it in person, you'll see how much of a pig seven is compared to 6.

6 is lighter and actually faster to 60mph than 7....

Evo VI 0-60 4.4 sec.
Evo VII 0-60 4.8 sec

that's like 3/4 or a car length or more on the quarter.

Evo VII is a bit more clumbsy on the curves and has a bit more understeer than VI..

these are just some things...

it is the fog lights that made the previous 'EVOs' look better and in my opnion more aggressive....with out the foglights the EVO VII looks like childs play

While many ppl may argue that the Evo6 is better looking, it's really just got a ridiculous bodykit IMO. Just because it comes from the factory like that doesn't excuse that it's just plain loud. I'm not going to drive the car in any rallies! And the wing is just plain crazy. Evo4 had a big wing, 5 gave the Samurai look... 6 is just plain ludicrous.

I think a much better Evo6 is the TME (too bad Tommi drives for Subaru now). Although the bumper isn't symmetrical, the whole look is much more refined and steps away from the ugly foglights of the Evo6. IMO Evo5 looks much better than Evo6.

EVO 5:

EVO 6:

EVO 6.5:

I'll have to look for some Best Motoring issues which do an Evo comparison... I'm pretty sure the Evo7 is the best ever, though I'm sure not everyone shares this opinion.

go for the EVO5, i think it looks much better than the newer ones. the EVO8 we'll be getting soon is pretty ugly. AWD Turbo is the best, I learned this when driving my friends old talon...boooooooooooooost

5 and 6 are basically the same car with minor change to the front aero kits, rear wing, and has slight more torque.

As for its looks....overall the car is not a handsome car...its very homely as a matter of fact, compared to other cars...its boxy, the lines aren't fluent, too many angles, and very stealthish. Some say it looks like Gundams head:

But those are the exact traits that make the car sexy...its different from any other car on the road. However VII just look a regualr everyday family sedan modded by a real ugly body kit (something like what I use to see riceboys do with the Gallant) and VIII looks even worse
