Default Intakes: What are some of the best intakes for the Type R?

I know of a few intakes that i've heard were really good like the J's intake, and the comptech icebox. But i dont want to get the AEM CAI because ive heard of too many people hydrolocking.

one more quick Q, where is a good place to buy a J's Racing intake and how much do they cost?

you answered your own question right there.....

anyways ive had 5 diff intakes and i would say INJEN is the best one. it also depends on your mods...with only bolt ons..i would stick with a CAI. if your doing cams and more, stick with your stock with a k&n or comptech filter.

I have seen the J's Racing intake sell from $240-$260. Go to http://www.jdmspecperf.com , http://www.ipsracing.com , and http://www.aj-racing.com they all sell the j's intake. I will be purchasing one when my funds allow it.

Del Slo what other intakes did you test? Any dyno numbers? I haven't seen much info on injen intakes before.

i'm glad you bring this question up - because it's been a while since it's been talked about, at least a couple hours, so we all could use another round of discussion about it.

search is your friend

AEM here - love it, but going to try stock air box to see any difference in highway noise. Keep in mind, no intake makes more than 3-4whp though some such as the AEM have maybe 9-10whp spikes... best bang is a K&N/Spoon/Comptech drop-in filter

the drop in filters dont do much on a bolt on itr. the way i tested the intakes was by racing my friend with a auto nos prelude. with a short ram intakes he would beat me by 2-3 cars. when i installed cai's i would beat him by a car. the short ram intakes i tried were dc sport, comptech and rs akimoto.

i say injen is better then aem because injen's piping doesnt get hot. im not sure what material/coating they use...but the intake gets warm at worst. with the aem i remember after daily driving i would come home and touch the intake and it would be hot. cooler air = more hp right? thats why injen is better then aem. their design is pretty much the same except the injen scratches easier.

uhhhhhh YAH. Riiiiiiight.

No intake will give you enough power to magically pull 4 car lengths from where you were..

Mugen and J's are the best......Comptech and AEM/Injen seem to be the second best for the price.

The stock intake with a free flowing drop-in filter works great and is a nice bang for the buck mod.

If I could buy one here (New Zealand) I'd go for the Mugen.. no contest. However I've just installed a BMC CDA (Carbon Dynamic Airbox) and I'm very happy with it

Not sure if they are available in the US though.
