1987 CRX Si
What kind of motor can I drop into this bad boy? My father currently owns a beater, but he will eventually buy another car. When he does this, I plan to strip this car to the bone and drop a motor in it if possible. I know it is the carbeurator model. What can be dropped? Will there have to be fabrication done to the car at all? Thanks in advance!
If it is a 1987 CRX Si, then it should be fuel injected; if it is indeed carb'd,
then someone has either transplanted a lower line engine in or swapped
on the Si badging. Engine swaps without the FI wiring harness and all other
associated plumbing will suck, but it can be done. First gen Integra engines
swap almost directly in with some wiring mods and a bit of engine mount trimming
(see the January 2002 issue of Sport Compact Car for a full story). Again, though,
it all depends on if you have an existing FI setup in place. If not, you are looking at
either an aftermarklet ECU & harness + fuel lines pump etc., or a carb conversion,
which could be expensive (but fun). After that, the sky is the limit, as several outfits
make mounts to drop in B16's etc. Depends on how much cash you have, and if your
car is truly an Si or not.
good luck
