Default Rally Roof Scoop

This is probably a pretty lame question, but, what's the purpose? They look pretty good on some cars, but do they actually do anything?

Thanks B50

They bring air into the car. If you notice, rallies are run with the windows up.

I've always assumed there was a camera in there.

Thanks Guys..............

Looks like I'll need one. We're having a Targa Rally here next year that I'm planning on entering. Summer heat with no air conditioning equals 1 roof scoop.

Anyone know where I can get one.

Thanks B50

Follow the links to Vents ... Side Vents

You can probably find one at a truck parts place as well.

you can always hack one off the hood of any oem hoodscoop equipped car and rivet that to your roof.

I thought that Targa Newfoundland was an all-tarmac event? If it is, save the time and effort and just crack the windows.

You're right Kirk.......... Targa Newfoundland is an all Tarmac event but some of the roads are narrow and when using the shoulders to apex turns the dust certainly flies. I'd perfer to leave the windows up for that reason alone. Cracking the windows will work for driver / navigator cooling but the noise generated by the air entering the car can trigger the voice activated communicators if the sensitivity can't be set high enough. At the very least it adds background noise while talking. The engine noise will increase as well. One thing you don't need during a rally is loss of communication between the driver and nav man.

Thanks for the links Autorex................Anyone know where I can get one of those Roof Scoops to cover up the intake vent (ex; Like on the roof of the eclipse in the F & F)
