Default I did my first HPDE...

Well, I finally attended my first HPDE with my 96 Civic Ex Coupe. It was a lot of fun, and I managed to meet a few people on H-T. Everyone was very friendly, and the track was great. My car was no where near the fastest, but I still had loads of fun, and my car managed to impress me on more than one occasion. I think I am hooked. It is definitely a lot more fun than Auto-crossing. You don't learn your cars limits at all compared to this. Now, I just need a motor!

I would also like to thank the members of Honda-tech for helping me get my car prepared for the event. I asked a lot of questions about road racing, and everyone was very helpful. Thanks guys.

Jeremy~

worry about going fast in a straight line later. Learn the driving lane on the said track and you will gain much more experience than just swapping more power into your Civic. as you saw at this HPDE there were fast cars out there with only 100 hp or so.

glad you had fun

Was that the Chin Motorsports event in Sebring, by any chance? Wish I had been there, but I just can't afford any more HPDE at the moment.

Cool, I've been there a couple times with Chin. From what I hear of other HPDE organizations, they seem to be one of the better ones. Sebring is a fun track, for sure. I found the back side, between 10 and 16, kind of confusing the first time out, but by the end of the second time, I felt pretty comfortable with it.

Hey Jeremy! Im glad I got to meet you. The rear sway held up fine for the day right?? Yes having 1.6L of pure fury is hard to manage, but you will make it through. Hah! Did you ever see that loud *** red miata on track? We were out battling for a bunch of laps and even though that car was DOG slow on the straights we were neck and neck the whole time.

Yea Chin puts on a killer event. Id like to hear of an event that offers better track time/$$$. Chin=

Hey Jacob, I think we met in Sebring last August. I had the black R a couple pits over from you. If you're who I'm thinking of, I came over and harassed you about taking your bumper off at the end of the day.

Hey man, yea I remember you. Pretty much stock type R with hmmmm R4S brake pads??

The end of that day was the worst! One of the bolts came loose from my cam gear and actually came out. Luckily the bolt got caught on the side plastic cover before it fell into the belts. I took the bumper off because I was actually thinking about towing the car home with a tow rope. Not too swell of an idea. I ended up renting a tow dolly from U-Haul...what a pain. Oh well..... Had great luck and a blast on Sunday.

Hey Jacob,

Nice to meet you as well. Rear sway held up fine thank god. I think I checked it after every session, but I am still stoked as to what bar that is. If it would stop raining I would go out and measure the diameter to end this mystery.

Speaking of the red Miata... I thought there were a couple of them, but I could be mistaken. Anyway, My exits speeds weren't that great, being this was my first event. I couldn't pull the Miata on the straights, yet it wouldn't gain either. I think the car was about the same speed as mine. lol SLOW. Perhaps it's time to look into more mods than just intake.

Sounds like you had a great time at Sebring! All of my experiences at Chin run events have been great too. to Wei Shin for running great HPDE's

kinda OT, but are any of you planning on running Roebling w/ Chin in January?

No, I would like to go to Roebling sometime, but currently I am low on funds.

I understand... that's why I wasn't at Sebring

fwiw, I think that Roebling is a better beginner track. It's not anywhere near as technical as Sebring and has ton's more run off room in case you absolutely blow a turn

hey its brad,
glad you had fun Jeremy it was good getting to know you and mike better. dont worry about that motor you did great out there and when you become more comfortable you will be very fast. aproach every turn of every lap and learn something from it. for instance we learned sunday that nobody can catch mikes R, jacob is borderline insane, and i enjoy exploring run offs in the braking zones. see you guys at future events.

Brad! It's about time you joined this site! It was nice meeting you as well, and I look forward to doing future events with you and Jacob.

Mike caught your brake exploration on tape! At least you didn't hit anything.

Damn it, I wish I hadn't run out of money and gotten myself into debt to where I had to sell my car. I ran at Sebring I think 3-4 times and I love that track, I came down there Sunday on my new R6 just to watch this time, but I sure wish I could afford to run one more time before I sell the car. Jacob, sounds like you're getting some track experience and getting good. I wish I had scored a wristband and ridden w/ you but I got there so late that it would have been pointless. You want to co-drive my car next time there's a chin event so I can afford to run one more time before I have to sell? (before you say no, remember the M3?)
