Is it bad to start the car in 2nd grear?
1st great has a bit of go to it. Is it bad to start of in second. I never do but I see some of my buddys with faster cars using 2nd grear at stop lights ect.
I use 2nd from a 5mph roll, or sometimes when it is slick/snowy outside so that I can get traction without as much trouble.
What's bad about it? You just won't have much power at all <2.5K rpms. If you aren't going from a slow 5-10 mph roll (like in heavy traffic) or in the snow, what's the point?

you may have to slip the clutch more... so, yes if you do it all the time it would be bad. But once in awhile, no problem. If you wanted to you can get the car rolling in 5th gear, just have to slip the clutch ALOT.

starting in higher gear puts more stress on the crank and most likely can wear bearings...2nd gear is ok sometimes, you just have to be good with the clutch
I start in second all the time. If you aren't trying to get anywhere fast it isn't a big deal. I can start in second the same way I do in first, just takes longer is all.
My dad does it all the time. We will see how long his car lasts.
i usually have it in 2nd while i put along a parking lot looking for a spot. i'm usually too lazy to stick it back into first when i stop. so i just hold the rev at 800 until it starts move in second
w/ the 4.9, i just leave the car in 2nd when stuck in traffic. It's almost like an automatic tranny
