if you want to you can
but odds are
those blinging 17" rims you have are heavy, and killing your performance.

for someone new to autocross, i doubt 17s will be killing your performance, but they will make you slower than you'd be on a light set of 15s or even 14s. at a test and tune this past season i did a number of laps on my 17" ssr integrals with kumho 712s, and then a number on my 14s (of unknown brand, came with the car when i bought it used) with falken azenis. the azenis are a faster tire on their own, and the times were about 1-1.5 seconds faster. so yes, if you are competing for trophies, the 17s will be an issue. but for just starting out, they aren't a reason to not show up, learn how to drive, and above all, have fun.

good luck,
phil

yes, it's 'ok' to auto-x with. but 17" rims tend to be way heavier than 15's or 16" rims. for EG's/DC's, etc....16x7 or 15x7 seems to be the best overal size for weight/rotational mass and contact patch on the ground for extreme auto-xing.

Most people covered it. I think you should be fine running on 17s. The worse thing you could do is not try it cause you have 17s. The best time to start autocrossing is asap no matter what you have. Just be ready to be humbled your first year or two. For some others it comes naturally.

But yeah don't expect to be a winner your first season out Just sit back and have fun.
