Found an ITR...........should I pursue further?
Okay......my search has led me to a 2000 PY ITR in the Pittsburgh area at a Subaru dealership. Yes, the owner had traded in on a WRX.
It's got approx. 26K in mileage and seems pretty mint. I'm waiting on pics from the dealership. The salesman informed me that it has some mods from what he can tell. He discribed something to the lines of an Apexi VAFC, exhaust, and the previous owner had lowered the vehicle. On what, I don't know. I'm hoping it's just springs.
The purpose of me getting an ITR is to start autoxing in the STOCK class, so I'm a little concerned with purchasing an ITR from a dealership with some mods on it. My main concern is having the factory warranty void and null from some nimrods modifications.
Also, the salesman slipped on some info that the previous owner had just traded in on the 10th of December for his new WRX that he decided to total this past weekend. NOT A GOOD SIGN THAT THE OWNER DROVE THE ITR WITH CARE IN MY OPINION. The owner is getting another WRX supposively.
The asking price is VERY considerable!!!
So should I even pursue this any further?? It's about a 6 hour drive from me, so it's not a very easy distance to travel to maybe purchase a vehicle. It kinda needs to be a sure thing for me.
My concerns are as follows:
1) It's not stock. I'd have to invest some time and money in returning everything back to stock. But the purchase price well makes up for it.
2) Previous owner has just wrecked the new WRX he had traded in the ITR for just this month.
PLEASE HELP!!!! It would make a nice Xmas present if things work out in my favor.
Thank you, kindly
Edit: VIN # has been Carfaxed and come up clean. One owner registration.

My only reason for looking at dealerships at this time is because I have a trade in that has a lein on it so I'll end up saving a good amount of $ on taxes.
Plus, the price the dealership is asking is great. I don't think they really know what they have on their hands.

stay away from it ..
If the price is "too good to be true," then it probably is.
If it's been treated harshly, number of things could go wrong on ITR.
Also, just because carfax doesn't have any history, it doesn't mean it's "clean". If the owner paid out of his pocket, then there will be no record of accident, repairs, warrnaty claim, etc.

How much are they asking? There was one here in Columbus a few weeks ago at an Acura dealership and they were asking 14,900 but teh guy ran it to hell and blew the motor so they swapped in a new motor, pretty good price there but who knew what else was wrong

$17995
It's a borderline "too good to be true" price IMO. That's why I don't know what to do.

You know what......I think I might just make the trek down there this weekend to check it out.
I haven't been to Pittsburgh in about 10 years. From my memory, it's one of the greatest cities to drive into at night. Great tunnel action!!
Thanks everyone!!

I would be sure to have it inspected by an Acura dealership, or another Honda/Acura specialist before commiting to the purchase.

$18k is an ok price... but that means they really gouged the former owner on his trade...
As far as the mods, don't worry about voiding warranty. Check the paint depth to see if it's been repainted. As long as it's straight and clean, you can return the vafc and bolt on mods to stock. You might even make a little $ by selling the mods... ITR shocks and springs are relatively cheap, since so many of us swap them out immediately.
Dealers are required by law to tell you the truth, so ask:
Has it ever been in an accident?
Does it have any paint or body work?
Are these the original miles and the odometer functions correctly?
Check all the body panels for the VIN #.
Check the block and tranny for the VIN #.
Get the car up on a lift and look underneath it for rust and places where it possibly could've been beaten up and/ or repaired from an accident.
Good luck.
