Hey man there is changes. you have to wire the vtec. use your h23 tranny.it will bolt onto your h22a1. how much did you get the h22a1 for. i can get motors like (jdm) h22a's,b16's..etc. i think thats the biggest change you would have to do. is just wire up the vtec. i have my h22a with a h23 tranny and it gives better gear ratios. let me know how it goes or if you want or know anyone who wants motor. all my motors have 100% start up warrenty.
i am currently doing this swap with my 94 4WS Si. if you get an engine swap with the tranny attached, it is not much more than just the engine. i got my complete setup h22a, tranny with shift linkage for a total of 2600 dollars.
now, the actual install of the engine is very simple since all of the motor mounts match up. as long as you have an engine lift, you just take the engine out and drop the new one in. a few mounts later and you are done.
what got my wallet was all the little things i needed. for instance, someone already mentioned the vtec issue. you have to run 3 new wires to the ecu for vtec. go to http://www.helminc.com and they hav the electrical manuals you need, its rather simple. also, the h22a redlines at 7200 rpm (this is different with some other h22a, but mine was at 7200). this meant i had to buy a new gauge cluster, which cost me 115 dollars after looking around. i also had to buy 2 new pedal assemblies because i went from an auto to a manual. lastly, i had to buy the shifter lever and ****.
also, the battery i had wouldnt start the engine, but i think that was just because it was a really old battery. i had to buy a new one. that is really all the information you need. my good friend is a mechanic and he did all the swap work with the engine and tranny, and i installed the new cluster and assemblies. that is the easiest part. good luck!
