97 ITR owned by SDPD
So, I get pulled over this morning and get treated like a punkass streetracer. The dumbass fool writes me tickets for things he doesn't even know what they are. He pops my hood and yaks about my intake, and "thoes 2 blue things" (ie oil breather and Fuel Pres reg.) He didn't even know what they were. How does he know they are illegal. Just because they are blue? Is that a new CVC? No blue on the car. WTF. I need to know 2 things, and I post them here cuz I have a ITR and I know you all are the only ones who know their ISH.
If an officer wants to pop the hood, can we refuse, if so, what can the officer do?
Are Fuel Pres reg illegal, along with oil breathers?
Thanks for the help, in advance.

I'm no lawyer but:
I'd think you can refuse to pop your hood but that may lead to more problems with the poo poo officer.
And, yes, if you're aftermarket products are blue - it's illegal! j/k
That copper must not have gotten his morning donuts.
BTW: What state was this in - Cali? SDPD = San Diego PD?
Sorry to hear you got scammed by the poo poo.

it's a lose lose situation. sure, they need probably cause but all the officer really needs for his story is he might have thought you had a stolen motor. though we have rights, we really don't. if they want to search the trunk area if we refuse cops will basically tow the car. it's that simple. we do have right but in reality they're useless.
since you're in california the fuel regulator may indeed be illegal since you can adjust fuel and emissions may get effected.
the breather is definitely illegal. though maybe not in some states where emissions are no longer checked and there are no visual inspections.

Venting the camboxes into the atmosphere is very illegal, so the breather filter needs to go. Besides, that **** doesn't do anything but look stupid.
As for the FPR, it probably is illegal too. So take it off, paint it flat black, and put it back on. That way it will not attract any attention.

Why did he pull you over in the first place? Because when officers see something minor, such as no front plate or being too low, they can pull you over and start looking for some more things that they can get you on. And if you ever notice that when they do tell you to pop your hood, the way the say it is in a form of a question but they make it sound like a direct order, "COULD (or can) you pop your hood".
You can refuse, but then it would make officers wonder if you're hiding something from them. And then again it would **** them off and start writing you up for more little things that you have done to your car. They can also threaten to tow your car
If is illegal for the oil breather and the fuel pressure reulator, since they can alter your emmision on your car. If it doesnt have a CARB number in Cali, it's
illegal

The SD Dragnet cops are the worst...the thing about them is that becuase they are so directed simply towards the reduction of street racing, they really know their stuff...so if you have something under that that is legal and has a CARB #, they are going to be totally chill with you. They aren't stupid. The worst thing that you can do with those that work Dragnet is lie to them, because they are smart enough that they know better...which sucks.
