I'm trying to figure out what would provide better grip for HPDEs in my modified ITR. The car already is cabable of impressive lap times on 205/50/15 Hoosiers but I see that the Kuhmo comes in a 225/45/15.
The question is, will a 225 Kuhmo perform the same or better than a 205 hoosier on a 7" wheel?
It would also be much more cost effective to use the Kuhmos if they provide the same level of performance.
Thanks Mattj

FWIW, my 225/50-14 Toyo Proxes are 2" shorter when stacked 4 tall than my 225/50-14 Hoosiers 4 tall (on the same 14x6 rims). That's about a 13 mm width increase by going w/ the Hoosier per tire. I'd see if you could get someone to compare the two first. I'd take Hoosier (-7 mm a la 205s) over the Kumho if I was looking for performance but that is me and I am going on others' feedback. I recall also that my rains 225/50-14 Toyos (on 5" rims) are marginally narrower (less than an inch across all 4) than a set of 205/55-14 Hoosiers (on 6" rims).

Also, unless you are racing (and racing well, ie turning laps at the top of your field consistently), I see no need to pay for the Hoosiers. The Kumhos aren't that much slower and cost so much less. I put them in the same category as $2000 shocks - you might need them to win, but unless you're really that fast, you won't know the difference.

I have both 205/50-15 Hoosiers and 225/45-15 Kumho's, both mounted on 15x6.5" rims.
The Hoosiers are every bit as wide as the Kumho's. The 225/45-15 Kumho V700 is actually pretty narrow, it was skinnier than my 225/50-15 Kumho Victoracers.
