Upgraded Brakes with lots of vibration
Ok, got a quick question. I recently ( less than 10k ago ) upgraded my brake pads and rotors a short while ago. I went with Brembo drilled and slotted rotors, and the EBC green stuff brake pad, (it's a street car ). For the last 2 or 3k miles, I have been getting lots of vibration during braking. The steering wheel vibrates excessively also. The tires that I'm running on my car 215/40/17 Parada's, are in need of replacing, they have cupping but ride fine, no bouncing, or vibration during driving, just an annoying azz noise. I was wondering, are my brakes fine , and maybe my tires are causing the brakeing problems. OR, do you fellas think that it could be both that need replacing. I'm trying to hold out on buying tires, since I want to go down to 15in. rims.

your front rotors are "warped", probably due to improper break in of the pads and generally crappy EBC green pads. either get em professionally turned (yes you can turn slotted rotors) or just run a bit of abrasive (i forget exactly, but not sandpaper, someone will chime in on what to properly use) on the surface of the rotor to even things off. ppl will chime in and talk about how the rotors are "warped" because of unequal deposits of pad material on the rotor. all you need to know is your rotors are warped. now you can recognize it the next time it happens.
next time please do the following: 1. break in your brake pads properly (slowly come to slow stops in a safe environment or ride the brake pedal lightly for a couple miles with your foot on the gas, and no enthusiastic "tests" of the brakes the first hundred miles or so), 2.DONT buy EBC crap, and finally, 3. post technical questions in "technical forum".

Your problem is here:
And if you think you're the only EBC user this has happened to, you are mistaken. Your rotors are not really warped, they just feel like it. I am 99.99% it is nothing more than inconsistant material transfer on the rotors. Doing a rotor cleaning with some 80-100 grit sandpaper will relieve the problem but only temprarily. Unless you ditch those pads, the problem will only reoccur.

Matt-who can't believe EBC can still sell a brake pad in this country.

Casey, who's puzzled by why reputable places like Tire Rack still sell these things
EBC makes from what I understand makes very good Motorcyvle pads.. however thier forey into cars has been less sucessfull in some ways. I.E, the real entusiats used them find out how bad they suck and get something differnt.

Ok, thanks for the info guys. Soo, basically if I correct the problem, like tomorrow, I may be able to save the rotors ??? Next time I will know where to post, just thought you Road Racers would know more about braking.
