I hate Mobil 1 oil. *mad*
For the past six months I've been using Mobil 1 5w-30 Super Syn. And All I have to say is the oil sucks *** big time, ever since I began using it my motor has been burning it like its gas. For the past two months I've had to put a quart in each month just to maintain the oil level. So tomorrow bright and early I'm going to Honda and having them put in some good ol' conventional Valvoline Oil. That's what I was using.
A lot of people have had similar problems with Mobil 1. H22's eat oil and for some reason Mobil 1 gets eaten faster than most oils. If you go back to conventional oil realize that you shouldn't switch back to synthetic later down the road.
I'm running Mobil 1 tri-syn and I burn about 1 quart between oil changes (3500-4000 miles). So it's not a problem to me...

.on this one, my '99 h22 consumes about 1 qt. of mobil 1 10w-30 every 3000 miles; however, i did notice that when I did run 5w-30 it ate about 1/2 quart more. so i stuck to the 10w-30. conversly, however, when i do time trials at my car (30 minutes session, WOT 99% of the time) the h22 doesn't really consume that much oil, i think over the length of the day it consumed ~ 1/2 qt., for that simple fact, ill continue to run mobil1.
also, ry, why are you having honda do your oil change? get under that car and do it yourself, its easy.

Mine burns the Tri- or Super-Syn more than the other oils. Maybe it's just too damn slick and slides right by the rings... lol if that was true imagine the near nill friction on the engine!
i have been running mobil 1 sync as well and change it about every 3000 havnt had prob yet. want to try red line or R purlpe. For now i am stay with mobil till i find something i dislike or a need to spend more money.

go figure. After about 500 miles after an oil change I'll check everything and I'll notice a little stream of oil running from the filter. But I'm gonna give it one more try. I'll get conventional Valvaline; Oil the seal; Screw the filter on hand tight; then give it 7/8 of a turn tighter (just how the service manual says.)
Couple silly; perhaps
questions.1.) any problems with running Syn then going to conventional? (some guy mentioned something about that.)
2.) If I continue to burn oil should I be concerned about piston ring and such?
And I think I'm knowledgable about cars.

Also the Honda oem filters are produced by Fram anyways.
my bro burned oil when his engine was stock running any 5w 30. but now that its boosted he runs 15w 50 and havent had any problems burning oil.

The actual 'jdm' Honda filters are made by two companies: toyo roki and tennex, and both are far, far supererior to anything we get at the parts counter. The HAMP filter is identical to the jdm filter save for 12% less filter element surface area.

1. no, there are no adverse effect associated to switching FROM synthtic TO conventional; however, the reverse switching TO synthetic FROM conventional, after you've been running conventional for the majority of the motors life, is NOT reccomended.
2. if your car started, suddently, burning oil, smoking, etc. than you'd have probable concern that the piston rings and, possibly, the valve guides, have gone, but since this has been going on since new, I wouldn't worry. You could do a compression check and a leak down test to see how 'sealed' your combustion chamber is, if you wanted the added piece of mind.
Thanks (bb6h22a) for the input. I just got back from the Honda dealership. I told them my situation they didn't have much to say. I told them I that I'd like conventional oil and that I'd be doing a consumption test. And paying attention to the rear end of my car. (I've had little black particules near the exhaust,).
I would have changed my oil except I don't have a garage and it snowing.
I think we can lay this thread to rest, but it might be re-visited in the future.
