Update...Project EK D-series
Well guys...This past week has been pretty challenging. After tearin down the motor on Tuesday to see how things were goin we found some issues that had to be addressed.....(dont use a used oil pump) I normally build all of our engines with new pumps, for some reason I guess my personal one did not get this treatment. Everything else checked out. We got the car back together and added the NX stuff to it. Added in some gauges and a boost controller. Sat. we went out and drove the car about 100 miles, and turned the boost up from 10 to 20psi on a mixture of 93 octane and C-16. Now we are talking! This engine is an animal at 20 psi guys...We stretched it legs a couple of times through the gears. Still havent hit it with the NX yet. Now I did notice that when we added a touch of fuel to lower the EGTs that the spool up time got bumped from 4K to 5K. I didnt like this but at the time, the only way to get more fuel for the top was to add fuel psi, which added a bunch at the low side. Anyhow we were back from our road trip and I noticed that every 10-20 miles Id hear bolts falling off the car. This concerned me, lots of vibration, then it happened the oil drain plug flew out. Thank god I was on the phone with a friend that was behind me. We were able to pull over before disaster happened. After fixing the problem on RT66, and adding some oil, I did a quick check of the rest of the bolts. All I have to say, LOCK TIGHT. We use alot of this in our shop but I never thought it would come down to every nut and bolt. But I guess this will happen when you drive an almost solidly mounted engine for a long period of time....The other thing that I heard was that the D-series stuff just vibrates more...Anyone hear of this too? Next step, NX....More pics and videos to come....
