Weird noise. Symptoms of a broken engine mount?
Well I only get this metal "clunk" of a noise right when first gear starts to move the car, and only when it's moderate or heavy acceleration. I have heard up to 3 clunks in a row, but it's usually 1 or 2 at a time. I noticed it when I came home for Thanksgiving, and it's still doing it. I don't think it's the cold weather, anyone??? Thanks,

hrmmm.... i think there was a thread about this same thing about maybe 2 months ago, try doing a search. it seems to me like it someone had the same problem, but i can't remember...
It was me that had the problem.. and after 15 trips in, we still don't know what was up with it. It's gone now. Ok.. they could make it do it also, they'd try a few things, it would go away... or so it seemed. It would come back as soon as I drove it. It was a "THUNK" and you could feel it in the peddels (or i could). Mine only got worse.. started clunking more and more, and eventually any time i went over a nice bump it did it. Wasn't the struts, CV's, etc. The finally got it to go away by ripping the whole front left suspension apart, lubing every last peice, and tightening it all down really good. Now it's gone! lol. Finally! Hope yours isn't the same mine was.. but if it seems to get worse, suggest they take it all apart and lube it. I didn't get charged, but it's not covered under warrenty either since it's just lubing and nothing replaced....

this happened to me too, and i think it was my struts...cause i just put new suspension in, and now it's gone! i know i was riding on totally blown shocks for the past 1 1/2 years...racing springs and stock shocks just don't work to well together!
Check your ball joints as well, that's what i was told it could be too, but i got them checked out at some specialty shop and they said my ball joints were fine...
For me that clunk was when i just started to drive usually the first time i pulled out of my driveway in the day, or after it's been sitting there for a long time...i think the cold had something to do with it too!
I actually felt it very mildly the other day, so it could actually be something to do with the motor mounts for sure...since i had no shock absorbtion before and now i have very good absorbtion...so it would i think take alot of that thunk out...i'm gonna replace my mounts anyways soon...just for the sake of having more new parts on my car...the list of old parts on my car keeps getting smaller!

last time it was in the shop they checked to see if the previous owner had the dealer address the lower ball joint recall, but they said it didn't apply to all 5gens, and they didn't say whether or not the work was actually done; so I don't know what to think, cause this could be the cause I think. Thanks for the help guys
i have the same problem happening and have had for a while not sure what it is or how to go about fixing so i am just looking into this as it find it and if it gets worse i will become more concered. check your front sway-bar bolts. i know my car made clunk and thump noises going over the slightest bumps when mine was loose. the back does that as well if its not tight. plus if its up on a lift, the tension is off it and it appears tight while there's no weight on the wheels. just something to check out.

Did anyone find an answer to the noise? I have the same problem, and I had been told by friends that it is probably either a broken engine mount or a broken stabilizer link in the lower swaybar. None of them own Preludes, though. If anyone has found what the problem is, please reply. Thanks.
