Someone on this board said something about there being an "extremely rare" Civic Type R, 96-98 style, that was made by Honda apparently. I believe it was the user "waffles" or something like that. Anyone care to elaborate on this? Because I'm DAMN interested
There is a coupe that popps up on H-T periodically that is built to CTR-spec, but I think if the thing existed in factory-built form, it would be pretty well-documented 'round these parts.
So basically, I highly doubt it existed.

yeha, i've seen that yellow ctr spec coupe.....its one of the hottest cars i've seen on honda-tech, but i seriously doubt there was ever a real one
i've seen that coupe.it was a prototype. it's cw with 5 lug. it was when honda was considering bringing the type-r over in coupe version but they brought the "si" instead.

check this link.. it's a Coupe from thailand I believe that was given the full "R" rubdown.. and i BELIEVE turbopanda knows the guy personally.. and 1st off all coupes in japan are imported from the U.S so why would they import the coupe into Japan.. re build it then resell it to the U.S? the cost would be just to high

That car is really nice, but not a real Type R
(stating the obvious, w/ no diss to BOB) That Thai car is an aftermarket CTR conversion, as previously mentioned.
Talk of the CTR coupe prototype is more urban legend than anything, much like the legendary Prelude R that was argued about years ago.
Until I see concrete, Honda documentation on this alleged model, I'll be a disbeliever.

none taken gamby.. yeah when I said "R" rubdown I did mean total CTR conversion like you stated
oh yeah I love seen the Prelude TYPE R photoshops.. all they did was put the damn sticker on the lude

ek9 is a hatchback correct?
There has been no factory 96-00 Type-R Coupes. People probably have built a Spec R on a coupe. but all they did was make all the parts type-r.
what about in thailand... i went to this site one time with only 4 doors and coupes that all had the same interior as the ek9...seats carpet steering wheel...they all had 5 lugs...i think the gauge cluster was even the type r ones..all of them had a b series motor too. Some of them had type r decals on them...there were like 75 cars like this..did this come stock or did they all do the exact same thing to their cars???
You PM turbopanda.. I believe hes from thailand..he usually posts up in apperance forum...and basically he says they get all the JDM goodness there and also there is a autobacs store in Singapore so that makes it a lot easier for them to get actual JDM market parts.. but one thing they don't get is the Hatchback Civic some reason all they get are coupes and sedans .. and hatchbacks have to be imported specially just to get them
i'm from thailand and i can confirm that theres no type R coupes there, we get lots of 4 doors and "afew" coupes, but coupes are as rare there as Midori green hatches are here. and yes, people in thailand would have to ship a hatch (type R or not) over there
japan did make a civic coupe. its really rare over there. coupes are no ware close to being as popular as they are here in the U.S. it runs from 96-98. dont believe me? here you go.

how ever this time-line does not show the VIRS (racing sedan)
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A COUPE TYPE R.
