Default 1st Gen distributor same as LS?

I talked to a representative from Import Auto Salvage in N. Carolina today. He told me that a '90-'91 LS Integra distributor will bolt up and work exactly the same as my 1st Gen B16 one. Is this true?

I also heard form another reliable source that the LS distributor will work, but some modifications have to be done to make it fit properly. Something about cutting off one of the feet where it mounts.

I need some more info before I decided what I'm gonna do.. All help is appreciated, thanx.

ls distributors have 3 mounting points, vtec dist. have 2. You have to saw one of the feet off in order for it to fit properly.

Okay, if you saw it off, does it work properly? They told me it will never be exactly perfect, but can be used to get by. But they would recommend getting a 1st Gen. He said the time would never be exactly "perfect" with using an LS distributor.

I can get a brand new LS one for $109, and have it in a few days. Or I can order a 1st Gen one for $150 and it take a week or so.

Default **update**

**UPDATE**

I just oredered a 1st Gen distributor from Hmotorsonline.com for $150. I figured if it's only $41 difference, may as well get the right one. Look better and won't be cut.. lol

Thanx for your help 743..

What vtec has 2 legs???

Nope...same as the others... 3

The only reason why your gonna need to cut one of the leg for an LS one for a DOHC Vtec head is,there is not enough clearance because of the vtec solenoïd.

The LS(90-91) is the same internally as a first gen. B16.(Well most of them 'cause I heard one guy had a different one(There is like 3 different type.# stamped on the distributor housing))

I never done it myself....but if you can't catch back the adjustement for your timing....a file is a good tool to opened up the "Slot" for the adjutement.

Well, this info could be good for another one...

That's what I was told upon firther research. It's because it won't clear the VTEC solenoid. And like you said, the timing isn't as easy to adjust with the "modified" distributor. That's why I got the one for the 1st Gen.

This is deffinatly good info to know though.. Hopefully these posts can help somone with the same question/problem in the future.
