Default Please Help, B16a VTEC problem!!!!

Hi, I recently (done for a month or so) completed my b16a swap, and cant seem to get the vtec to kick it. I have a 21 code, (vtec solenoid). So, my honda tech teacher manully activated vtec, and verified the solenoid is ok, we also ran a volt meter to each end of the vtec wires, (ecu side to solenoid side) and there was continuity. I also tried another computer, and the same code poped up. Please help! Thanks, Ryan

PS,i had a pr3, but now i am running a pwo. the chech eng light comes on right away also. also, is it cool to drive it like this? ryan

take your ecu to honda and get the vtec 1.9 upgrade, that should take care of it

Is your oil pan dented?
that could cause a drop in oil press and VTEC won't work.

Make sure the VTEC sol is wiired to the correct place on the ECU.
If you get that code right away, and the solenoid is OK, then the problem is on the connections.

yeah, remember that the pins count odds on the top row and evens on the bottom. If you wire them wrong by counting them straight across (1,2,3,4,5..), the wires you replace will still let the car run but vtec is obviously not hooked up. Check your wiring again.

its gotta be an oil pressure problem, have you checked the oil screen and passage through the block?

No, it's not an oil pressure problem. If there are any problems with the VTEC soleniod or the connections, the ECU will detect it IMMEDIATLY... as soon as you turn it on you'll get a check engine light. If it was an oil pressure problem it would take a while to for the CEL to kick in. Plus, the idiot light would probably come on.

Yeah, the code is 21, not 22(oil press). I assume it is a connection, I checked hasports site, and verified that the connections to the ecu were correct. Same thing. I am stumped. So, the only thing it could be is the solenoid, connecting wire, connections between them, and ecu correct? Thanks. Ryan
