A- Pipe replacement
Someone here recently posted a topic on A-pipe replacement. I couldn't find it when I searched. Can someone point me to that thread? I had a low resonating sound coming from the engine for awhile. I took it to the dealer and the tech said that sooner or later all type Rs are brought back with the same problem. He says that it was a feature of the pipe design, and even if they replaced it, it would come back again. The guys were cool so they agreed to replace it tomorrow regardless. Has anyone run into this problem? It's not a terrible sound, just a louder humming / vibrating noise - louder than normal.

The A-pipe has a double walled design and the inner pipe comes loose over time and then begins to vibrate at certain RPM's. It can be stopped by drilling a hole in the A-pipe and welding it still or sometimes even denting the outter pipe to hold the inner in place. Denting is usually temporary. Had a GSR welded back in 1999 and it fixed it to this day.

Hmm. Sounds like a better solution than just outright replacing it. Thanks for the info. Did you do the welding yourself or did you take it to a speedshop?
