Default bent valves at track!

hi guys...... had an aweseome day at the track today. Till i fucked up that is
last session out, pushing too hard i mishifted to 3rd instead of 5th, i saw the tacho spike to 10,200rpm, then my motor stalled.... i knew i stuffed something up at that stage. Car is still driveable however it would stall if you dont keep the revs up, did a compression test and no.4 cyclinder was way down, it was showing 150, while the otehes were around the 225 mark. My mechanic reckons i bent an exhuast valve and said it shouldnt be too hard or too costly to fix. He said that only that 1 particlular bent valve will need replacing and of cos the headgasket.

Im under the assumption that if you bent valves you also damage the pistons and valve springs? am i correct? or is mine a minor case? could there be other unforseeable damage to the engine thats not apparent yet?

cheers

Just replace the valve, 3 angle valve job, new headgasket, and your set to go. Consider yourself lucky you didnt break the valve. That would mean time for a new engine. Shouldn't cost to much for what could of happened.

you can't fully inspect the damage till the head is off, but i've seen this happened alot with people with 2 valves needed to be replace to a engine heading for the junkyard.

When something like this happens ... isnt there the revlimiter? assuming this guy has a revlimiter.

The revlimiter is useless on misshifts.

true, the rev limiters are EXTREMELY useless. Want to see proof? Check the link in my sig.

The wheels push the motor over the limit...even though the fuel is shut off, the motor will still keep cranking because the wheels are turning the engine...

Correct me if I am wrong...

if you're running a chipped ecu then the rev limiter wouldn't matter either.

Sorry to here that.

Hopefully you hadn't fully enaged 3rd, you know, like clutch out- Revs start climbing way to fast - Clutch in.

You said "it's still driveable.".........DON"T. Just towed it to get fixed. I would have towed it from the track.

BTW. Which track were you at?

sounds like it could have been A LOT worse...you should be able to rebuild her back to normal but I guess you wont know for sure til you get her apart.

Here my 2 Fav's..... in order. Mostly because they're the closest.

1) Eastern Creek - Sydney. http://www.eastern-creek-raceway.com/circuit.htm

2) Wakefield Park - Goulburn. http://www.wakefieldpark.com.au/site/frameset.cfm

Wakefield's the sort of track you'd love to have in your backyard. Small, but loads of fun, and the best bit, it's nearly impossible to hit anything, like Walls...etc.

Check your seating position - mis-shifts (up-down) are usually caused by the driver sitting too far away from the steering wheel.
