Default CATZ HID Problem

Just got my CATZ HID yesterday and last night I tried testing them. I had everything hooked up and instead of the lights staying on constantly, the bulb would just flicker. Does anyone know why this is happening? It doesn't seem to be igniting properly but if both bulbs do the same thing I don't believe anything is wrong with the bulbs, ballast, or ignitor. Any suggestions?

it could be a bad connection to your ballasts.. the car might not be putting forth enough power to get them started..

nah..sounds like his is more of a car related problem.. HID uses less power overall, but it needs more amps initially to get the ballasts started.. ive read about people who live in COLD weather areas having problems with their HID in the mornings due to cold weather messing with their amperage somehow..

Philips or not... that isn't the issue here

and Philips doesnt "make" a kit. Vendors bundle HID kits and throw in components made by alll different manufacturers. I would rather have a complete Catz kit which is known for their high quality. I just think there is a small error here that is causing his problems and is not really equipment related per se.

check http://www.fet-usa.com they list a couple of HID Specialists in the INternet vendor listings...

They have a H4 kit that has a solenoid to move the BULB, not the shield.

The problem is due to a bad ground, or not getting enough power to ignite the bulbs fully. I had a similar problem with my Matrix, due to the daylight running lights

The reason I don't want the philips kit.

Where do you get this info?

As shown here it looks plug in play. Connect postive and negative and your set.

machaf,

Actually it depends on the application, but the picture above is for the pre-test of the bulb.

When you hook it up to the car, you hook up ground and a spade connector to the stock bulb harness and youre done.

Catz HID
A Philips kit is a full HID kit comprised of only Philips components. These kits have a much better reputation that Catz. Mercedes, Audi and BMW dont use catz, they use Philips and Bosch technology for their HID's.

More things to mount, more wires to connect, this is small instalation job, not plug and play.

This, is plug and play.

these are perfect.

For $400 shipped, I got:
2 Philips Ballasts
2 Philips D2S Bulbs

All you do is unplug your current bulb, plug in the ballast, and your ready to go. About as plug and play as they come.

Trevor Tan is the guy to talk to if you want the philips kit: trevor_tan@visualdynamics.ca Great guy with A++++ Service
Here is his Group Buy Thread: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=205083

here are mine:

HID's and High Beams, you can see how much whiter the HID light it.

Mercedes, Audi and BMW don't use Trevor's kits either. Same difference.

Catz uses Matsushita components which are OEM in Acura, Honda, and numerous other JDM applications. Same argument could be used here.

Philips name has been so bastardized in the aftermarket HID arena.

Never said they did, I said, "Mercedes, Audi and BMW dont use catz, they use Philips and Bosch technology for their HID's".

Catz HID's is by no means better than a Philips HID's in performance. The only argument that can be placed on it is that it can be called more reliable since it has a separate ignitor. Although I'm not aware of the way the componenets are implicated in the JDM cars.

Philips name has been so bastardized in the aftermarket HID arena.
Why do you say this?
