i recently bought this car 94 del sol and the guy the only thing wrong with the car is the throwout bearing is bad. so i take it on a test drive and at first i thought maybe the whole clutch assemby may be bad too, but it gets pretty good clutch grab. it makes grinding noises when the clutch is engaged, but it the grinding noise goes away when i pressed down on the clutch pedal. can anyone tell me some possible reasons for this?

 

There are bearings inside the throw out bearing, Kind like skateboard wheels or bike wheels, They dont last forever!

Just drop the tranny, Exam. the clutch (if it looks good leave it alone), And in install a new tob!!

I'm sure you can buy the TOB by itself....but if it were me and I had the trany off, I would just replace the whole assembly. Autozone time! Lifetime warranty!

 

yea i was plannin on just replacin the throwout bearing itself but some people made a good point tho...that is if you're going to go thru the trouble of taking appart you're whole clutch then you might as well put a new clutch in

 

yea, thats what i was plannin on doing...but i might as well save up for an ACT stage 2 clutch instead of an OEM one

 

I got mine from Autozone for about $130.00....lifetime warranty!!! I have had no problems with and its been in for about 10k miles.
