I know this has been covered many times before, but I want to express what I think is rice.
Really I think there is no such thing as rice. Big wings, neon led's, stickers and altezzas, this is simply that persons style. Yes, we may not like it and thats why we call it rice, but staying clean and the JDM style may be considered rice to others.

All this is got way out of hand to me. Its like if you buy a part that isnt JDM or JDM style it is rice. Whatever happened to just disliking a car because of the look, not calling it rice or the person a ricer.
Im not trying to stick up for anyone, my car is stock. Im just sick of always hearing rice this, rice that.
Correct me if im wrong, but aftermarket cd players to me have always been kinda flashy with graphics and color. Now it was cool if someone you knew had one or even yourself, but now its rice, from what i always hear.

There will reach a point where this JDM trend will stop, and if you have JDM style parts that will be considered "rice" in some way. Just like a fashion trend, something is cool for a while, then it dies out, then it makes a return. Now im not saying what everyone calls rice will be the next big thing people will do. You will see more of it when the fast and the furious 2 comes out.

Now you may not care what I have to say, or you may have some smart comment, I just want to hear what all you guys have to say. What your views are. Im not trying to start anything up, I just wanted to write what I feel.

Im not a fan of chrome wheels, wings of any sort (except factory), stickers, neon anything, graphics on the car, and some other things. I dont like black wheels on a white car, it looks like someone stole the rims off it. But I respect everyones style.

Now for all the people with the JDM style to their car, When a new trend of some sort arises, are you going to replace all your parts for these new ones?Or are you always going to stay hardcore JDM?

"rice" or jdm style, you shouldnt care what other people care how ur car looks b/c its urs and u spend the money on it. make ur own style.

Well FLAMENCOVTEC, you basically said what I wanted to say, just in a way shorter version.

And this is not the worng forum, I didn't specify it, but I was talking about civics, and this is the civic forum.

 

 

IMHO, Rice is doing something to your car that makes it look or sound tacky. Like windsheild wiper LED nozzles for example. It is all a matter of opinion though, but when you start to get masses of people laughing at what you have done to your car, chances are it's ricey.

The sad thing about it is though, right now it seems like it is cool to have your car riced out. Thats the impression I get looking at cars in my town.

I dont consider JDM parts rice (although I'm sure there is probably an exception somewhere) because they add function (in some cases), and (in most cases) they don't look tacky, they improve the looks of the car.

Just because everybody is doing it, doesnt mean it is rice.

im sorry... no rice adds function, unless youre talkin about the downforce of a 3-decker wing. rice is crap. now, the other thing... jdm will never go out of style, because its classy. thats like saying usdm will go out of style. what the hell do we do then?? the cleaner, the less tacky, the nicer-looking. and along with BDC, IB4TL

But if you have some part or something eveyone is laughing at, it is still not rice. That person spent their money on a part they wanted, so why try to down them for it. You could laugh under your breath or keep the comments to yourself.

I bet alot of people look at black wheels and laugh, I do, where is the function and the fashion in that? But like I was saying, you spend your hard earned money on something and your style is different from mine I respect that, no matter how ugly it may be. A ricer is doing the same thing as anyone else is, customizing a car. Yeah certain people go for speed, but you can only drive your car speed limit. Certain people go for looks, wheres the performance in that? Everyone has a different style, and no matter what it is I will always respect it, that doesnt mean I like every car that I see.

So what some of you are trying to say whether you see it or not is that pretty much anything JDM equals performance. what about a c-west body kit, does that do anything, no. Or an option 2 bumper sticker slapped on at an angle above your exhaust, no. But its what you like, and i can respect anyone that is into modding a car. Whether it turns out to be a poster car for APC, or on the latest cover of a "JDM" magazine, or nothing at all, as long as you are happy with it.

But like I said, im just telling you what I think, im not trying to start anything, but it looks like I have already done so.

yeah....that's why i like the domestic crowd....it seems that the "importcrowd" is way too trendy and if you aint got it, you suck, kinda like highschool.....dont get me wrong, i know LOTS of people who appreciate all sorts of import cars, but the majority of people with honda's are just trying to "beat the jones's".....me personally, i use my own style and i will continue to stay in the honda bandwagon WAY after it beomes less mainstream..late

To exceed the factory numver of exterior/interior lighting = Rice
To claim your bolt on civic runs faster than 16's = Rice
A monster Tach = Rice
Any performance sticker = Rice
JDM = Rice

Sweet mother, who gives a ****? If you are doing anything just because everyone else is doing, your a f*cking loser. Do what you like because your the one who has to see it every day. If you like 3 foot wings and ***** pink neons, go for it. But dont come on here crying because someone thinks your car is rice. Just like you have a preference for gawdy body kits, someone else doesnt. Last time I checked this is a message board, you know a place where people post opinions. My suggestion if you dont want to here someone calling your ride rice if it is in fact considered ricey by most, go somewhere else.

just wait till f&f comes out. everyone will want that. my style isnt jdm because i dont have full jspec parts. only some. i had a car and the plans that i wanted were wat i have now, but i ended up totally my car. but as for me i just like everything simple. if people like other things. why judge them? thats what they like. let them have there peace. theres no rule that everyone has to look like this or that. thats what i dislike about everything. everyone judges. i myself do, but i admit it. but look at it from a different perspective.

too some people there cars is there work of art. Its how they express themselves.
