Anyone here revalved Bilstein HDs?
I wanna revalve these HD Bilstein to handle 425f/450r spring rates and maybe lower 1.5" at most with Ground Controls for the track. What's your opinion, how do you like them? Have you had any problems lowering them too much? Thanks for any input.
I had my rears done for 900...work good, ask for a spec sheet that says what they did to the shock.
The stock HD's bottom out outside the shock...so you can't lower them too much so you can have them add a spacer inside the shock(like a droop limiter) so the piston bottoms out inside the shock body this way you can run even lower then 1.5.They will do that for free. Or you can have them shorten the shock.
400's isn't that stiff to run really low or you'll eat up travel easily.
Also according to bilstein the revalved HD's are good to go a 100lbs up or down on the rate you revalved them for.
I don't remember exactly but it was around $55 to revalve each shock.

You revalved them to 900 lbs? I didn't realize you could re-valve the HDs that high. So technically I can have these revalved to about 600 and buy ~525-550 spring rates, since there is some self-adjustability. when I talked to Bilstein they mentioned about the spacer to limit droop. I wasn't sure whether or not to ask for it, but sounds like it might help. Thanks for your help.
Who were you guys talking to?
I'm on Bilsteins with GC sleeves and something like 350F/500R.
I'd like to have at least the rears stiffened and the droop limit piece installed.
Thanks, Ed.

Originally I talked with a guy named Jack (in revalving dept.) a couple weeks ago. I called them today and Jack will be on vacation until Jan. 2nd. They said to put a note in the package for them to call me before they do anything to the shocks.
As far as the spacing is concerned, you have to talk to the enginnering dept. and let them know that you're sending the shock too. Also put a note letting them know to put the spacer in when they open the shock because you're dealing w/ 2 different departments. I think it's something like $10 extra each shock for the spacers, but no extra labor costs.

Sorry about that. Bilstein: (800) 537-1085
This is the So. Cal. number; I think they're near San Diego.

Jack is the guy to talk to.
If you are having your shocks revalved...don't mention anything about street driving, make sure you give them some idea that this is for a track car. These guys do a good job with the shock modifying but they seem to have some kinda problem doing what you ask them to. There are cases where people send in shocks to be revalved for high rates and the guys send back a shock with stock valveing. I know that they can shorten the shocks there so I included a note and phoned him and told him exactly what I wanted...they sent me back the shock but it wasn't shortened(it had the limiter installed). My friend sent him his shocks and they shortened each one for around $20 extra. I called Jack and asked him what gives and he's like "we only do that for special race applications". I was like WTF do you think I am putting 900's on for?? to go get groceries??
Oh and YES have them put the limiter in it gives you more travel so you can play with shorter bumpstops
Other then dealing with them(bilstein) the shocks worked out nicely...the rebound is really good.
