that's a really good choice. that's actually what i had in mind or you can go with the JL 13W7. that 13" sub actually took place of the JL 15".

eclipse doesn't even provide a recommended size for a sealed or ported
enclosure like the JL site does. i don't know why. JL's 13W7 is 1000 RMS.
imo that should be all u need...i'm getting a 10W7 installed in my ride myself.

I'd take a look at Image Dynamics as well...

Ok here goes for you partner....

RE XXX, Adire Audio Brahma, IDMAX (Image Dynamics), Focal PolyKevlar or Utopia line, Alumapro, Audiomobile might make a 15" but I don't remember off the top of my head. I would not go with a W7 everyone has them. I mean they are not bad but not good for the money. You can get 2 subs for the price of the one W7 and blow it away granted it is two subs but the W7 is one big *** ****.

The Eclipse is nice but tend to be a bit harsh and bright from what I have heard. Personally if you want SQ then go with the Eclipse but if your wanting SPL then go with what I listed above. The Brahma is a GOOD choice by the way.

If you want SQ, don't go with a 15.

I am not going to go in depth with this but that is not true partner. A 15" can sound JUST AS GOOD as a 10" if not better. If you don't believe me then ask RCurley55 or some other people on this board. Size of the sub does not affect SQ as much as you would think. Purely a rumor. But oh well I don't have time to deal with this.

I'm trading some car stuff with my friend for 2 JL 15's. I asked to get the model number for me. But he said that it's not the new ones. Maybe an older model...they any good??

they *can*, but not as easily. More work and closer tolerences to air space requirements are a must, as are more solid construction

i define sound quality in a sub as "how well the product can reproduce the frequencies." a 15" will push more air (same model sub as the 10") and that is why they go lower. you push more air, you go lower. a 10" sub freq. range is limited compared to a 15". they aren't going to go low as say 15hz like the 15" can. the only time the 15" will fall off is near the 65hz range. anything higher than 65hz will be the midbass region. but if you're serious about sound quality, then you'd get a 15" to reproduce that LOW LOW bass and a pair of midbass to pick up after 65hz. after all, subs ARE made for subbass .

its all in the midbass. even 10" can sound sloppy if you have no midbass. the 15" will play better as a sub than the 10".

That is true my friend however the simple fact as with ANY sub is one thing. Probably 60% of it if not more is in the install. You can have a 1,000$ sub vs a 500$ sub but if the 1000$ sub has a 100$ install where as the 500$ sub has a 600$ install then most likely the 500$ will sound better.

It may take more work and time yes but in the end the result is more valuable to me. Then again I just make my own boxes so I save quite a bit there. The fact is is that you can make any sub sound GOOD if you want to. Some subs are just better at what they do which is moving air. It just depends on the sub you get. It just depends on what application you choose. But personally I would rather have a 15" 18" or 21" over a 12" or a 10" but then again that is just me though. So all in all it comes down to your ear as EVERYONE'S ear is different.

Oh yeah almost forgot that a sub does not make your system have great SQ....It also depends on the amps, components/coaxials, HU, and so on. Wiring does not mean that much if you ask me. I mean wire is freaking wire. But me I just enjoy Focal and so on....Not to mention I am a Home Theater nut so I have heard some EXCELLENT towers so I do have an incling as to what SQ is. But I am not trying to belittle you or anything just saying that it is alot of factors that determine how wel your car sounds.
